Big BCS format changes?

Post by greenyellow »

A drastic changing of the BCS could be on way by 2013. Looks like the BCS would only decide the NCG and not any of the other current BCS games. With this, Bowl games would go back to having prearranged agreements with conferences and no more AQ schools. Sounds like a step in the right direction, but I still want some sort of playoff system instead of the BCS.

The money quote (and I do mean MONEY):

"Equally intriguing in the proposed model is the possibility of opening bidding for the BCS Championship location and the absence of a two-team-per-conference limit in those major bowls. In other words, a world where SEC West rivals LSU, Alabama and Arkansas could find themselves, depending on rankings and record, in what are now referred to as BCS bowls."

It's funny how many people from around the country think the South is stupid. They are running circles around the rest of college football in terms of negotiations, scheduling, rankings, recruiting, all of it. I am encouraged by Larry Scott's progress, but he still has a lot of ground to make up.

I would LOVE that format...you would have Bama, LSU, Arky, Florida or whatever the hot team in the SEC is that year in 3 of the 4 "big" bowls almost every year.

They might as well rename the "Sugar Bowl" the "Tiger Bowl".

"And by eliminating the automatic qualifying clause, BCS officials hope that conference realignment and expansion -- in some cases, done in hopes of securing AQ status -- would subside."

Keep upstarts like Larry Scott's PAC 12 from getting a couple big names like Oklahoma, and becoming equally dominant with the SEC?

This smells stinky

They're more concerned about money than getting things "right"

Until CFB has a playoff... then it will forever be a big scam.

You don't think big bowls like the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange etc won't have any ties to a certain conference? I think there will still be at large spots but I bet that some of the big bowls will want at least 1 of their teams locked in
