Broadway to Houston

Terrance Broadway had seen enough. After tripping throughout the south, Broadway found his spot this week after taking an unofficial visit to the University of Houston.

"I committed to Houston," said Broadway. "I did it about an hour ago."

WTF? Houston is a pass heavy team, it doesn't seem like he fits their offense and why pick Houston over Oregon, Alabama, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah..... he is crazy!

Wow. Offers to Oregon, Alabama, Nebraska and Mississippi State, and he goes to Houston without an official visit to any of the schools. Not sure I understand the decision. Was he afraid of competition at his position?

If Oregon doesn't end up with a highly rated qb in this class and a school like Houston does then Oregon isn't doing something right recruiting wise. Why aren't quarterbacks lining up to play for the ducks?

Bonehead thinking, listening to other coaches claims that the Duck version of the Spread is a career killer, maybe?

We want the intelligent QBs to come here...

Although, I did come across an Crimson Tide forum that suggested there may be academic issues involved in the commit to Houston... I haven't checked to see if the admission standards are significantly different there.

I find that assertion hard to swallow... Rivals lists Broadway as having a GPA of 3.8, and an ACT score of 25, which should easily qualify him anywhere, unless he is woefully short on core curriculum.

TB supposedly made his commitment 48 hours after returning from an unofficial visit to Houston.

Even if it wasn't Oregon, Houston? Best of luck to Broadway if that is what makes him happy, but football wise, he can have fun playing in a "who cares" division and maybe a minor bowl game at best.

This indeed is troubling. If Munchie does not become a duck.. the quality QB's we are after are dwindling sharply. QB is a defnite source of extreme need this year. I am not saying Bennett is not a good qb. It is stille arly in the recruiting process and some of these guys may change minds. If Munchie does not come to Oregon.. what is our next step in regards to getting a good quality QB to come to Oregon. Am I wrong for being concerned about this. I am not at all saying its the sky is falling. Just pondering what happens if we do not get a highly rated QB as it seems that is the reality.

I don't really care how "highly rated" a high school quarterback is. Look at the list below (2005 Elite 11 quarterbacks) and tell me how many you would prefer instead of a low ranked Jeremiah Masoli.

Neil Caudle
Plays for Auburn; listed as the third-string quarterback after spring practice; threw just three passes in 2007

Pat Devlin
Plays for Penn State, expected to compete for the starting job in 2008; threw only one pass in 2007

Zach Frazer
Began career at Notre Dame, transferred to Connecticut and is listed as the backup QB on the spring depth chart

Josh Freeman
Plays at Kansas State; threw for 3,353 yards, 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as a sophomore in 2007; expected to start in 2008

Cody Hawkins
Plays for Colorado; listed No. 1 on the depth chart after spring practice; threw for 2,693 yards, 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2007; son of Colorado
coach Dan Hawkins

Jake Locker
Plays for Washington; threw for 2,062 yards, 14 touchdowns and 15 interceptions and rushed for 986 yards and 13 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2007; expected to start in 2008

Mitch Mustain
Played one season at Arkansas before transferring to Southern California; listed No. 2 on the depth chart behind Mark Sanchez

Kevin Riley
Plays for California; will compete with Nate Longshore for starting job; threw for 563 yards, five touchdowns and one interception as a redshirt freshman in 2007

Jevan Snead
Began career at Texas but transferred to Ole Miss and sat out 2007 season; expected to start for Rebels in 2008

Matthew Stafford
Plays for Georgia; threw for 2,523 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2007; expected to start in 2008

Tim Tebow
Plays for Florida; threw for 3,286 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions and rushed for 895 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2007; won 2007 Heisman Trophy; expected to start in 2008

Isiah "Juice" Williams
Plays for Illinois; passed for 1,743 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and rushed for 755 yards and seven touchdowns in 2007; expected to start in 2008

I would like to see the Ducks land either Munchie or Anthony Gonzales but the Ducks do have a good QB commit already with Bennett so if the Ducks were not able to land another QB this class I think they will be fine because I am sure Masoli will stay his senior year so they could go after and hopefully land a top QB next year!

I would take a lot of the qb's on that list. Let's see how Masoli does being the qb for the entire season. I expect him to be good, but I think it's still a little early for the heisman talk or already labeling him the next great Oregon qb. Besides, wasn't he a 4 star jc qb? The bottom line: it's time for Oregon to get a top qb.

I visit this site daily but post infrequently. A couple questions: Why have we not offerred Tyler Shreve? He's not ranked as highly as Munchie or Gonzales, but if we whiff on them, Shreve could be gone. Appears he is high on the Ducks and would likely commit.

Also, unsure why we haven't offered Andre Dawson. If we whiff on Lattimore and McConico, (which is likely) we would be in the same boat. Simply put, are we being too selective at the expense of landing other good recruits who like Masoli could turn into a quality player?

Agreed. Like half those QB's panned out big-time. I know there are success stories with lower-rated QB's, but there's a much much higher fail rate with lower-rated than higher-rated. That being said, I trust the coaches on QB recruiting. When's the last time we didn't have a great starting QB?
