Post by jhopduck »

I will welcome all questions about recruiting or the team in this thread.
As a community let's all try to answer them quickly. (and politely)
It can be about any player or particular game or whatever Duck related you can think of. There are no stupid questions here, just the one's not asked.
If any of you have something you want to know about any one player ask it here.
I'll try to help, we got Tony D around, Mops, TK, AJ_U, and lots of invisible posters from the premium sites check here.

Jhop . . . There has been quite a bit of talk about "silents" of late (from multiple sources) ... when do you guys find it appropriate to make that info public with specifics (obviously the player being #1 piece of news!)?

Ok Ok I will ask the first stupid question... Joking.. As I mentioned I attended practice yesterday for the first time ever. I was um somewhat confused as saw a lot of guys wearing black shirts but no numbers. Was that just cause didnt have enough blackshirts with numbers.. or was there a reason to it. It made it somewhat hard distinguishing who some of these people are. I really enjoyed watching though was a nice experience and learned some bout the work they do.

Silents are nothing more than heavy leans at this point. That is the view of the staff and should be our view really.
Elite schools like Texas or others will hold them until a higher ranking prospect may decide. That does not apply to Oregon... yet.....
I have one confirmed myself. The reason I do not make it public is at the wish of the respective player, who hopes to hold a conference right after HS starts. I don't want to ruin his one shot at the spotlight. :D

Goducks-Black jerseys are a reward for the team that "won" the last competition day. Team being offense or defense. I have not been to practice I don't know why some have numbers and some don't. However black jerseys are a reward given out by CK, the score keeper

Jhop.. Thanks for answering question. I knew was some kind of reward and laughed at Chip being called the score keeper. That is great.

In regards to the um silent that is a commit.. not asking for any real information regarding him but from what know would say this is a good land.. a great land.. or a major land. I guess the difference between great and major would be how soon of an impact the kid would be once arriving in Eugene. I do not know if can answer that without giving too much info. Just curious.

To me anyone the staff feels confident enough in to offer this early not as a backup plan I consider a great land regardless of stars or ratings.
That said, from what I know (very little), is that I think it's great. Hopefully it sticks, like I said silents aren't worth the paper they are printed on....... oh wait a sec.. no paper?

Thanks Jhop. I certainly understand keeping the wishes of the player(s) in question. And, when that's the case, it would probably help us to know that, so we aren't hounding you guys about it! The same stuff is being talked about on Scout and Rivals (I'm a subscriber to those sites, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to talk specifics), so I guess we'll all just have to remain anxious for the news to break!

One thing to keep in mind whlie waiting, HS starts at different times of the year in different parts of the country. Here in the Charlotte area it's starting a week from Tuesday (Aug. 25th). I've heard that a few other areas around the South are already getting started next week.

We may not have too long to wait before the gravy train of info starts rollin' again.

A lot of people are talking about Mathis too and saying he's a silent. Even if he was, which I'm not saying he is, he is planning several other visits, and not announcing until the AA game, doesn't hold a lot of water if he was IMO.

Jhop ... I assume you won't acknowledge guesses? If I'm wrong . . . Dixon?

Yeah I'm going to let that one stand as I left it. Feel free to guess away, but I won't acknowledge out of respect for that player.

Are we going to get one of the top 4* DT's that are on our board? There are like 5 or 6, one has to come to Oregon...right?
Best guess as to which one we have the best shot with?

We are 50-50 with Uko right now. Those aren't bad odds, just sucks that USC is the other 50.
Sione Potoae is a UW commit, I also like our chances there with a visit.
Not real sure we are very high up Heimuli's list, also he is taking his mission he claims right away so I don't know how hard the staff is pressing. Great player though.

If we start the season 4-0 beating Boise, Purdue, Utah and Cal.....how many players commit in that span?

If we start the season 7-0 and then fight USC (tooth and nails) and come up short or Win....how many players commit in that span?

How many players will be hopping aboard the Duck Train before we get to bowl season?

Obviously, this is just speculation, but we know you are the second coming of Nostradomus, so we're going to hold you to these predictions Jhop ;) :D
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."
