Tomahawk Nation Rumors / Reporting On NCAA Sanctions

http://www.tomahawknation.com/2009/1/15 ... -rumblings

Highlights:

FSU Football could forfeit the 2007 season wins, which would end the bowl streak.
From the tone of things, Track Fans might not be too happy.
The sanctions will last 3 years instead of 2 and be twice as many scholarships as FSU recommended.

"This does impact Bobby Bowden. FSU went 7-6 in 2007. Bobby is currently one win behind Joe Paterno. When the sanctions are finalized, he will be eight wins behind Paterno. He will still be the second winningiest coach of all time. This move ends the race between these two coaches. Eight wins is not a gap he can close playing in the ACC while Penn State crushes the Big 10 and their pathetic out of conference schedule. I personally don't think Bowden deserves the record, because counting Bowden's lower division wins and not counting Eddie Robinson's lower division wins seems unfair."

Ouch... "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." - George Carlin

It probably will help the Ducks since they seem to already have alot of interest from Florida next year. Tee Martin could possibly help with Florida recruiting as well. The Ducks still have to compete with Miami and Florida, and USF, UCF and North Carolina as well as others, but there is so much talent coming out of Florida, the Ducks should be able to land at least a couple.

The FSU scandal started before NLOID last spring... Several of the FSU players involved were suspended for their bowl game, and it wasn't a small list, IIRC.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls07/n ... id=3165899

Dateline Dec. 22, 2007

Scandal, rule violations, injuries deplete Florida State bowl roster

"Thirty-six Florida State Seminoles players won't be going to the Dec. 31 Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl against Kentucky because of an academic cheating scandal, other violations of team rules or injuries."

Linebacker Dekoda Watson, cornerback Patrick Robinson, who had six interceptions, and three top defensive tackles were among the players sidelined either as a result of the ongoing investigation into an academic cheating scandal at the school or some other violation of team rules.

The school announced earlier this week that 25 of its players were included in its ongoing investigation of academic wrongdoing by the athletes. It didn't identify which students.

Thirteen of the names missing from the travel list had started games this season for Florida State. Eleven of the players were non-scholarship athletes.

This coupled with Shannon not getting it done is a chance for us to plant the seed in Florida and get some of that speed that comes out of there. I'm loving Grant, could be our version of Percy harvin.

Raise your hand and repeat after me:

"Thou shall not get cocky over a kid that lives 3000 miles away from home even when he says Oregon leads...because that kid will probably have a parent that says "I want you closer to home"".

just repeat that over and over.

and i have no idea why anything happening at FSU would effect Oregon. :geek:

Hines raise your hand and repeat after me:
I am a negaduck we should recruit out of Oregon and northern cali only. Sometimes Washgington. As there is enough talent there to get us NC bound every year. (sarcasm avatar)

The rest of you repeat after me:
Go get em Chip!

my point was that some nilly willy won/loss record thing at FSU means next to nothing in the big picture of things.

kinda like some folks like to freak out after a home loss and wonder if it makes a big impact on recruits. well...it usually doesn't. i've been following this stuff for over a decade and losses rarely effect a recruits view. so again, some FSU crap means almost nothing in the big picture when it comes to recruits and it's seemingly non-impact on Oregon.

and don't forget that pledge of mine. don't get your hopes up. ma and pa have to sign the LOI too.

The big thing is not the W-L record, it's the loss of scholarships.
