Solid Verbal's take on SM prescence of Helf's staff
The Solid Verbal, one of the top podcasts covering college football, posted a tweet from a past recruit that said Helf's staff had no idea how to recruit via social media. I think that's where Taggart and his staff will thrive in recruiting. For example, new Oregon DC Jim Leavitt is roughly the same age most of the long-timers under Helf but he's shown that he can adapt to social media to stay relevant in the recruiting game.

It's really incredible how complacent they had all become. Thank God they cleaned house; another couple years and the program would have been in the dumps.

That's why I'm now glad that Mullens made the move. It's just amazing how much is coming out at how out-of-touch and complacent the staff had gotten. They were basically coasting on their past successes and hoping that'd be enough to get top recruits. It worked to a degree but I can only imagine how much stronger this team could have been had they been actual grinders on the recruiting trail.dthomas=ddixon wrote:It's really incredible how complacent they had all become. Hopefully they can coach as good as they keep in touch on social media.

So Nigel Knott or Jared Mayden? Place your bets!

I am sure the old staff thought they were working hard at recruiting. What's totally obvious is they were doing it wrong. Not just the social media part, but the whole idea that they could wait so long to offer kids, as if they were Alabama or Ohio State (neither of whom are shy about offers from what I know). I believe this attitude came from a good place- they genuinely felt like they were going to do more due diligence about kids backgrounds and their "fit" than other schools. They took great pride in the fact that all of their LOI's got into school. But the cost was either ignoring some kids or being late on others. The world is only getting faster- that strategy is not going to work for an Oregon.
Thought it was interesting that Matt Lubick has all of a sudden gotten active on twitter since he's been at Baylor. I guess from his perspective better late than never.
FYI- don't know how many of you listen to The Solid Verbal. One of the two hosts is a Duck alumni. Fairly entertaining podcast.

The old staff inherited a Ferrari built by Chip. They thought they could just keep everything the same, and it would continue to work. They didn't continue to evolve both in recruiting and on the field. so what was once ahead of the curb, fell behind the curb.

X2, it becomes more painfully obvious how complacent they were with each passing day Willie's in charge. Their first big test is signing day, but they already got some key players to stick around for another year.....we'll see.dthomas=ddixon wrote:It's really incredible how complacent they had all become. I will admit that until recently split my time 50/50 on eDuck and here. I was pretty vocal starting at the beginning of the year about how terrible the team looked, as if they didn't have a clue. I was basically crucified and shouted down by the green kool aid drinking crowd over there. I stopped by there recently after a couple of weeks absence and most of the threads are still there. That site is basically dead. I guess the gist of this is-I love this site!

Please don't take this as snarky, but I think you meant curve instead of curb.buckmarkduck wrote:The old staff inherited a Ferrari built by Chip. Haha. I mostly post from my phone these days, so it's easy to miss these things. I guess I should read them before hitting submit, but I don't.nogerO wrote:Please don't take this as snarky, but I think you meant curve instead of curb.buckmarkduck wrote:The old staff inherited a Ferrari built by Chip. You fall behind the curve. You hit a curb. Either way, the old staff fell behind the curve and then hit the curb (with their Thomas Magnum cherry red Ferrari)

Does anyone else with an iPhone, notice the screen no longer moves automatically while typing a response on here? Maybe the app doesn't have that problem, but I've never downloaded the app.

Exactly. I definitely think there was a little incompetence in how we recruited, but until I hear many recruits complaining about the same thing, it's all meh to me.Duck24 wrote:So Nigel Knott or Jared Mayden? Place your bets!
We still pulled in some nice classes, minus the front 7.

While some feel the need to take continued shots at the old staff(and yes it was time for a change) I'll say thanks to them for their time here and for helping Oregon get to the level they achieved. Now here's to coach t, the new staff and then taking Oregon to the next level.
