What would Cristobal bring as an OC?

Post by pairadux »

Hey all, new to this site. Came over from DT when I saw that JHop is hanging out over here.

Obviously Cristobal is an ace recruiter with a solid reputation in that realm, but what would his skills be as an OC?

It seems like everyone is all jacked up to have him here, but it appears as though that's based on his recruiting prowess, but I've yet to see what he brings to the table as an actual OC.

We've been spoiled with an effective aggressive high scoring offense over the recent years. Will he keep that up? Bring a Bama style offense? Keep the Oregon style?

Would love to hear thoughts on this from those who might know the x's and o's a little more.

Might get some sort of mesh between Willie T's gulf coast spread to run the score up and Bama's smash mouth grind when we need to run some time off the clock.

Who knows really, but I'm excited to find out.

Willie has stated that first there will not be a huddle and we will be a spread team, fast, and powerfull.
I think Willie will dictate what Oregon does with input from Cristobal. Willie has the ability to adapt to
his players.

not a whole lot besides some elements from Bama's smash mouth game - it's Taggart's offense and he'll call the plays

I think this is dead on. Very, very curious to see what our O and D look like this year. Especially the offense though. I'm hoping Taggart really tailors his scheme to Herbert's abilities.

I have seen it stated many times that WT will call his own game so I am thinking Cristobal will help with Run game coordination on the OC front if anything, a position he held at Bama as well.

But as far as the OC / OL coaching titles being combined it sounds like it was a way to justify the amount of money it probably will take to get him on board.

Don't think he'll do a lot when it comes to calling plays, but he'll certainly help when it comes to formulating an offensive gameplan week in and week out.

he will, it's what good offensive coaches do

Taggart has never had a QB with the skill set that Herbert has, he has to be excited

For what it's worth, Mark Helfrich ran Chip Kelly's offense and didn't call plays, and he parlayed that into being head coach of a top 10 program. This could potentially be a great move for Cristobal even if he doesn't have certain responsibilities usual to being an OC.

Didn't Helfrich call the initial play and Chip would audible based on what he saw from the field? If so, I wouldn't mind seeing something on those lines with the new staff. OC calls a play from the box while Willie tweaks it based on what defensive scheme is being shown.

He ran a spread at FIU when he was the head coach there.

No, chip did the play calling.
