2018 Recruiting
Well everybody the 2017 recruiting cycle has come and gone. And as our own Willie Taggart has said "Recruiting is like brushing your teeth and combing your hair, as soon as you stop you start to look bad." As we have seen already a flurry offers have gone out to 2018 prospects. Who do you guys think are top prospects for the Ducks? Who will be the 1st recruit committed of Willie Taggart's first full cycle of recruiting?
1st Recrui?t I predict to commit with either come from one of the several elite Oregon prospects. Chase Cota would be my guess or Jermaine Eskridge from Tampa since he already has a relationship with Willie.
Who will the QB be? It's either going to be DTR or Cameron Rising.
What do you guys think will 2018 look like?

Way too early for speculation and discussion on commits and pulling commitments and commiting again to someone else and...... time to take a breath....great recruiting year this year.

Re: 2018 Recruiting
21 seniors on the roster right now so it looks like next year's class should be 21 or more, and if we only signed 24 with 3 being EE's, I believe we can take up to 29 next year if needed? I think continuing to beef up in the trenches will be key, given what USC was able to bring in on the DL and Stanford on the OL. We also need some bigger, physical guys at RB (replacing Freeman and Benoit who are graduating) and LB.
Not sure on exactly who the recruits will be but my guesses for major focus areas are:
TE- 2-3 guys, most likely 2 HS guys and a JUCO
OL- 4-5 commits (4 Sr's and 6 RS Soph's on roster)
DT/DE-3 players (only two graduating)
LB- 6 players between OLB, ILB, and Rush LB
I think we could end up with up to 7 in-state guys next year:
2 WR
2 OL
1 CB
1 S
1 LB
We also need a punter and a long snapper.

I'm lazy, do you mind making a rundown on expected openings next year?
I thought I saw that we only had like 10 seniors, but maybe that was juniors.

Thanks for indulging me.
Maybe it's unfair of me but anything below top 12(essentially best class ever) with that many spots available and the fervor of our staff would leave me disappointed. I only expect 7-8 wins on the field but I expect our recruiting to be elite.

Yeah it looks like we are going to have a huge class this next year. Very excited to see how Taggart tackles it!lukeyrid13 wrote:Thanks for indulging me.

Re: 2018 Recruiting
Besides the 22 SRs, they didn't fill a couple spots due to last-minute flips so those are also open. Add in a few transfers and the funky scholarship math that comes with EE's, they'll potentially add 25+ players. I doubt they fill it completely since there are only 9 scholarship JRs on roster due the massive failure of the 2014 class.

Re: 2018 Recruiting
Wouldn't call it a complete failure. Royce, Crosby, TBJ, and Chuck have been home runs. Swain, Jelks, Hollins, Mondeuax, and Springs have been serviceable. Everyone was a pretty much a failure. I would call the class pretty underwhelming thoughgreenyellow wrote:Besides the 22 SRs, they didn't fill a couple spots due to last-minute flips so those are also open. Re: 2018 Recruiting
I think 2018 could be a very good year for Oregon recruiting. A few things Oregon has to do though in order for it to truly become a good year recruiting though. Oregon has to show improvement on the playing field. Especially defensively. Oregon also needs to not have any more coaches screw the pooch and give Oregon bad press. If Oregon can do those things and the coaching staff shows an upward trend then 2018 could be a very good year. If Oregon is subpar again or if we have more stupidity coming from the coaches then the recruits will think Taggart is all talk and just like a politician.

The only ones that will hurt are as follows. The Ducks can recruit better replacements for the rest
Darren Carrington
Kani Benoit
Charles Nelson
Royce Freeman
Tyrell Crosby
The Rest--- Although names we all know, they have not been special. (and for all those that love Arrion Springs, remember he's lost his starting job more than once)
Ty Griffin,
Taylor Alie
Juwaan Williams
Tyree Robinson
Ian Wheeler
Jonah Moi
Danny Mattingly
Doug Brenner
Elijah George
Jake Pisarcik
Evan Voeller
Arrion Springs
Jimmie Swain
Aidan Schneider
AJ Hotchkins
Tanner Carew
Henry Mondeaux
