Potential TE Transfer?
Oregon isn't specifically mentioned, but we do fall into the West Coast category. So this could be something..?

I'm sure if he wants to come here he'll be added to the team. No way Taggart and co. turn down a stud TE (higher ranked out of HS than Falo by a fair amount). Depends on if he wants to come here.

It better be something, he is a 4 star TE.

Re: Potential TE Transfer?
Don't know how much truth there is too it, but someone on DT said the other day that it would be between Oregon and UCLA. My money would be on UCLA, but our depth chart might make it interesting. That's if the staff even pursues him. I was hoping we would have went after Terrance Lang, but he signed with Colorado. Also heard rumblings on DT that the staff was trying to get Jarez Parks on an unofficial, but haven't seen anything about that in days. TE and a pass rush DE are two of our biggest needs.

He's from CA, but USC has to be out of the picture with their unreal depth at TE right now. UCLA, Cal, and Stanford are all options I suppose. Hopefully he is willing to look at us.

Re: Potential TE Transfer?
I mentioned in another thread that I saw on the Yahoo feed that he was seeking a transfer. So it's happening. A couple advantages I'd give us: 1. depth 2. A coach we hired from Michigan to coach our receivers because he has major California recruiting ties. He must certainly know Assasi, and perhaps even recruited him to Michigan, right?
Edit: Turns out Dougherty was an offensive assistant at Michigan and couldn't do any recruiting. Still, it's a relationship.

FYI - Here's the bad news with Asiasi. If the rumour of wanting to being closer to home is true, he lives in the bay area and his best friend plays for UCLA. Thats Cal and UCLA who are already ahead of us.
Our odds aren't good unless the Michigan coaching connections are helpful. Who knows at this point but this kid was a high 4-star in HS but better yet, his film backed it up.
The other rumour is it's grades related. Unless it's justifiable to the NCAA, he's not eligible next season. In either instance, it's not awesome for us.

On the flip side to this, he and Boss T. Didn't go to school together the first time around so maybe that's really not a big of deal as people might think. Also, it's only about a 2 1/2 hour difference between Eugene and LA. So I don't think that will be a huge factor either, but who knows. I wouldn't read to much info anything until some actual info comes out. You'd think that he would see immediate playing time, and possibility a starting spot once he became eligible. Then again, I thought that with Falo too.srsmiley007 wrote:FYI - Here's the bad news with Asiasi. Re: Potential TE Transfer?
The same poster who mentioned Assasi might be transferring before the news actually broke said it would come down to Oregon vs. UCLA. My guess is UCLA, but I'm hoping our receivers coach helps in some way.
PS. Didn't hear of the potential grade issues. It's all wait and see at this point.

Re: Potential TE Transfer?
Even if he did transfer to Oregon, he'd have to sit out a year, which means it doesn't help their TE depth issues for the 2017 season.

Re: Potential TE Transfer?
The grade issue is just rumor at this point from posters. He didn't redshirt so even losing a year this kid is a must get if we have real shot. Would be a beast in this O because he can seriously block.ifuwant2 wrote:The same poster who mentioned Assasi might be transferring before the news actually broke said it would come down to Oregon vs. UCLA. Re: Potential TE Transfer?
What's better, taking a high four star prospect who has the potential to be an amazing player. Or take a project like Luke Wilson? Neither will contribute next year, but the choice is pretty obvious which one you choose. I have faith that Breeland and McCormick will do just fine next year, as long as they can block. USF really didn't use their right ends very much, so I think we'll be fine next year. And let's be honest, I don't think we will really be competing for a title next year, so building towards 2018 is going to be the best option. Asiasi is a must take.greenyellow wrote:Even if he did transfer to Oregon, he'd have to sit out a year, which means it doesn't help their TE depth issues for the 2017 season.

If it means anything, Cristobal followed Asiasi on twitter
