Biggins on NC Foursome

Over the summer four North Carolina recruits made the cross-country trip to make unofficial visits to Oregon, Cal and Oregon State. Teammates defensive back James Scales and linebacker Chris McCain (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) have since committed to the Ducks, leaving teammate athlete Keenan Allen and defensive lineman Gabe King (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford) still undecided.

From talking with some close to Allen's recruitment, the feeling is the No. 8 overall ATH is leaning to the Ducks and would like to commit, while his family is pushing Alabama at the moment. Clemson is also involved and more than likely, Allen will take official visits to all three schools before pulling the trigger.

As a result of the visits, don't look for Allen to make his decision anytime soon. He hasn't set up any of the trips yet, but will likely take them during the season.

King will take his visits after it appeared the talented defensive lineman would be the first among the group to commit.

"Gabe is still leaning solidly to Cal," former Northern Guilford coach Otis Yelverton said. "I thought he would be the first to commit of the four, but he wants to take some visits now. I still think he'll end up at Cal and it wouldn't surprise me if he still makes an early decision but as of now, I think he'll do a few trips.

"I know [Cal DL coach Tosh Lupoi] would like to see him go ahead and make his decision so they could focus on the rest of their class. He has yet to set up any trips and I'm not even sure where he'll visit -- but Cal, Oregon and Alabama were his main three so that's likely where he'll visit."

Is anyone else baffled that so many recruits want to play for Tosh Lupoi? He is only 3 or 4 years removed from playing the college game. He could very well be a good coach but from many accounts his greatest asset is his ability to play xbox 360. Sure he can "relate" to the players because he could still pass for being in school, but is he really going to be able to teach them the skills to get them to the next level? :( I mean really, do players even consider that the guy has about as much experience coaching as I do? Hell, I can play xbox too...
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

His best choice for schools will always be HIS best choice for schools. I know he loves his parents but he has to follow his heart. The first step to becoming a man in learning how to make your own decisions. Allen is a great talent and i hope he respects his parents wishes but still ends up making the decision on his own.
