Recruits buzzing about Oregon's spring game

Post by Phenom »

A ton of great quotes from top recruits. Seems like the coaches hit out of the ball park!

You can always expect that the facilities are going to be top-notch, as the recruits do. What you can’t fake, is that most recruits feel the family vibe, and that they are genuinely wanted/needed. That they line up for a recruit may seem a little overkill, it affixes the appreciation. This staff just gets it.

If the Ducks can lock in 2-3 more starting players on D, then they will have a seriously dirty defense in 2 years.

I am buying the hype about these coaches. Coach C has a way of speaking that makes you want to play for him. Of course I’m 37 so May come across different to the 17/18 year olds. But every time he does an interview I like him more!

With slick Willie you listened to him and recruits take notice but there was always to
me a certain amount of bull i didnt believe in. With MC here comes across as very honest
and believes in what he's saying with confidence. He has assembled a very good recruitng staff.
I really like him as well. It appears to resonate with recruits as well.

I still have negative feelings about Cristobal as a gameday coach, but I'm very impressed with his organizational skills when it comes to building a staff and his plan in recruiting..and yes he's good behind a microphone.

He doesn't have to be a great gameday coach if he knows how to hire the right assistants that are.

I think this is spot-on. It's become less about the head coaches football skills and more about their organizational and leadership ability. Getting great coordinators and position coaches while motivating, delegating, and recruiting is more important than ever.

I am far from sold on Cristobal's coaching until I see what the season holds, but I'm loving that the team has a family atmosphere that I so often see recruits mention as a big draw for schools like Clemson. I think this is especially big for a school like us, since distance from family is such a big factor.

I honestly think Willie vs Cristobal is a wash. I think both are probably below average as a game day coach but both are top 10 HC in recruiting and staff development. MC is more believable and likeable so I'm happy with the trade off. The lingering question, is how far below average he is at game management.

Not sure the LV Bowl is a good representation of his game management style. The preparations for the game were hindered by the need to recruit for the early signing day while also dealing with WT leaving and taking many of the support staff who helped the team run on roadtrips and on gamedays.

This is what i was thinking. And i hope its right. He does have a great staff that should
help with game day management. MC has only one game on his resume at Oregon and
to many distractions.

Cristobal says all the right things. He checks all the boxes in terms of likability, work ethic, appearing to be sincere and intelligent, etc. If coaches could win championships by looking and sounding the part, the Ducks would be contenders. Unfortunately, the epic bowl game debacle he presided over, after assuring people the Ducks were going to "send a message" and were having their best practices of the season, makes it nearly impossible to take him seriously. Until I see some things taking place during actual games that gives me confidence he has any sort of clue what he is doing, everything else (recruiting buzz, interviews, etc.) goes in one ear and out the other.

I agree with both of you. Judging anyone's performance based on a single game with so many things going against him is foolish.

And Chip’s even worse debacle at BSU after an entire spring and fall to prepare was what?
