Ducks no longer under consideration by Michael Johnson Jr

Post by pdxduck »

Can't say I'm too surprised. He never seemed too into Oregon to me just based on past comments.

Sounds like the Millen commitment just sealed the deal.

A few question marks come up. the biggest is he stated no one at Oregon has talked to him much since they sign Millens......... I believe he lives with a Duck coach. Also he states something about stepping out on his own....... which makes more sense. Also lots of time between now and ink to paper.

Our staff didn't like him as a QB.

Isn't it really the main reason that his dad is even a part of the staff though?

I doubt it. From what I’v seen, that’s an Internet rumor. Any time a coach gets hired and has a kid/recruit approaching graduation, those rumors pop up. It doesn’t mean Dad isn’t a legitimate Coach hired because of his own skillset. Rumors like these are incredibly dismissive of the professional skills of these coaches.

The senior Johnson has a good resume, but apparently recruiting WRs is not part of that resume.

When we hired him I assumed it was Willie banking on a future QB recruit. Now we have no WRs and a different QB.

I think the more appropriate title would have been "Michael Johnson Jr no longer under consideration by Ducks"

We didn't. He was not top 5 on our QB board. The staff REALLY liked Millen. Passed on at least 2 4* QBs because of him.

I bet we would have taken him at another position, but doubt he'd want that. Bummer it didn't work out, but oh well.

Which other QBs did we pass on?

Jayden Daniels, Dwan Mathis, MJ Jr., and we took ourselves out of the Grant Gunnell sweepstakes.

I don't know any of the qbs we passed on but I would wonder if was genuine interest from both parties or character issues. Lot of recruits talk up coaches and act as if interested but not genuine.
