Should we worry?

I am growing a bit concerned with the lack of blue chip players willing to commit to Oregon. Not saying the glass is half empty per se but if Boyd nor Brown commit to Oregon this class looks more average than it does great and we will be ranked like 45th in recruiting this year. Gaines.. Wheaton.. have not signed yet... Adam Hall is still questionable. We lose a guy we thought had to Oregon State. Am I wrong here? I know still have 2 weeks but concerns are mounting about this class. According to rivals we have 2 blue chip players so far with 2 weeks to go that is not many.

Yes we have wiffed, but there are still a lot of top talent on the board and we actually look good for some of them. I know we've wiffed but you cant really judge a painting or book until its been finsihed. We land a few guys and our class is the best ever. We whiff on a few and we are maybe just outside the top 25. WHen your class has that much sliding factor you just need to wait and see what happens.

There is no way we stay at #45, you increase in rankings points with each new signing and we have a lot of spots still to fill. Some people said the same thing last year and we closed very strong for another top 20 class.

I'm guessing you havn't followed Oregon recruiting before? Oregon has only landed a handful of "blue chip" recruits in all its years of recruiting. To expect a change over night isn't going to happen. Contrary to what many think, Oregon isn't a national power that can pull in any blue chip recruit they want.

Let's look at the bright side we already have more (potential-likely) 4* offensive recruits for 2010 than we do in this year's class.
Doesn't mean it will end that way, as we typically close pretty strong. Expect some good news soon, including a highly anticipated Boyd announcement. He's been all us for a while now, he's just making his parents happy as they would "like" for him to stay closer to home, however it's not required.

Well if Brown and Boyd go elsewhere, we'll still probably end up with 5 4-star recruits. Not a great recruiting season, but in terms of average stars, our class should be about 25-30.

You would think recruits would be lining up to go to Oregon. Not just because of the facilities and Autzen, but because we have been the 2nd most successful program in the pac-10 to USC in the past decade. I think that says a lot, especially in such in a conference like the pac-10. I think it's tough because a lot of the California kids go to USC or UCLA. To be honest, a lot of recruits from the south and east coast probably cannot even locate Oregon on a map and know nothing about Eugene. It's got to be tough for these coaches to get top recruits to visit Oregon and "sell" what they have to offer. This is also why I like the fact that the Civil War will be televised on a Thursday night throughout the country on ESPN. Every little thing like this has got to help when it comes to recruiting.

alot of these guys grow up in such tuff places you would think that they would love to live somewhere that you can walk down the street any time of the night and not get shot for wearing the wrong colors (WELL UNLESS YOU ARE WEARING ORANGE AND BLACK lol.)

I agree, kids especially on offense should be lining up to play here at Oregon more so than they do. My opinion of why they don't is the public perception of the Pac-10 outside of the Pac-10. They all think it's the Pac-1 of USC and then everyone else. They don't care who finishes second. It's true we all know this.
What will help is better tv contracts to showcase our school to other regions where we recruit. What WILL help is the 4 or 5 games ESPN/ABC gave us this year. Now, we just need to perform on those games.
That #4 ESPN preseason deal certainly won't hurt either.

Ya, it sure feels like the chips are starting to fall into place for us..Who knows we may even see some (BLUE CHIPS) fall into place for us as soon as this year.
They are certainly looking good for next year as well.

It's not over until the fat lady sings...Oregon traditionally has good late pushes. I wouldn't read too much into a guy who is going to greyshirt next season. This class could be the best ever or the mediocre class we seem to land once every 4 years. Btw, a mediocre class once every 4 years is manageable, especially with our likely success on the field next year. However, this will not be a bad class.

Something that I think would help tremendously is for us to win the P10.

Like Jhop said, people outside our conference area have a perception that the P-10 is USC and a bunch of scrubs. Our bowl record as a conference surely helped but USC needs a conference rival. If we could nail them in Eugene this year and win our other conference games, or enough to win the conference, it could be the start of something really special.

There is a lot of talent out here on the west coast. USC can only take 25 per year and they usually get some national recruits so that cuts down, even more, what they can take from this area. If we could establish ourselves as the clear #2 team in the P-10 and be competitive with USC, I think we could become the destination of choice for a lot of talent that gets spread around right now between UCLA, Cal, ASU, Colorado, ND, Utah, BYU, BSU, etc.

There will always be kids who want to stay close to home and UCLA and Cal will get most of those guys that SC doesn't but we should be the top destination for everybody else. If Dennis hadn't gotten hurt I think things would be a lot different right now. Even without a NC, dethroning USC and winning the P-10 would have really put us on another level IMO.
