Would you still want Tahj Boyd if it definitely meant DT would transfer?

I think DT and Boyd can be the same player on the field, and I'm not sure who is a better QB for us right now, but I have at least seen that DT can perform in games and he doesn't currently have an ACL problem.

Boyd has the potential to open up recruiting lines though...

if i can't have them both, i'd rather be loyal to the current duck. i think DT's future is bright and while its hard to say who will be the better qb in the long run between DT and Boyd, i do know that DT has a great work ethic and i'm confident with him being the starter in future.

the only kicker is if Boyd meant than Bryce Brown and others followed. but i believe we are capable of getting Bryce whether or not we get Boyd - but hopefully we're able to get BOTH!

I refuse to answer such a troubling question. Its like if you had to lose your wife, or your new baby girl who would you choose? Okay, that is a bit much, but my meaning is I would want to keep both. That being said, if the baby never really existed, but was more of a dream, I would go with the wife hands down. So at this point I say DT needs to stay all the way. There, I walked myself thru it.

We are seeing posts like this a lot... It is possible to have quality depth. That is what it takes to be a top tier program! That is what will push us to the next level, if we had quality depth behind DD we would not have spiraled out of control the last 3 games.

Problem is that we already have quality depth (i.e. DT who will have to wait 2 years anyway for Masoli). It's not that they are afraid to compete, it's that starting at another D1 school for 2 or 3 years is a better situation than starting for only 1 year, barring injury.

And we "had" quality depth behind DD, but one kid (DuRocher) transferred b/c of competition and one kid (Costa) blew out a knee that he already had problems with in high school.

Not saying that DT is scared off by competition, just wanted to see some opinions out there to at least speculate on things that we can all speculate on rather than what someone's cousin is saying or how many stars one guys has.

I speculate that if we get Boyd, DT will not redshirt. If we don't get Boyd DT will redshirt. I am not too concerned about getting Boyd, we are on the radar for a lot of talent next year and that will provide more spaceing in the classes. I also don't think that Boyd will be as big of an inffluence on BB as many might think, I think if BB comes to Oregon it is because he knows that we are his greatest chance for success and transition to the NFL, with a more family like atmosphere to boot.

I think Roper would be the qb more likely to transfer.

Some have said that Roper is happy being a player coach at this point, I'd be suprised to see him go anywhere... I know it is heresay, but take it FWIW

I will add my two cents to this question. I very much agree with VTAduck. I don't think Thomas is afraid of competition at all in fact I believe he welcomes it. If we all take a look at last year for awhile was a real possibility that Pryor would be coming to Oregon. Thomas went on record saying let him come I welcome the competition to see who can step up and be the next quarterback. Given that I don't think Thomas is that concerned about Boyd coming or whoever might come next year. I think Thomas has a lot of pizazz but we really only aw a little bit of him and that was in a horrible situation and we do not know fully what he can do based on one quarter. I have high hopes for Thomas but I was behind Masoli all the way after Roper went down. I was happy to see him start to develope his passing game and needs to continue working on that. Only other thing I see needs worked on is when is raining. Even though never rains at Autzen... maybe have football rainsoaked or something.

I love how people always think the recruit is always better than a veteran immediately. Boyd has to come in and grasp the offense and prove he is better than Thomas, not the other way around.

Also if DT, who I think is a great QB and will lead us to great heights, is scared of competition and would want to transfer because of it than good riddance why would we want a player like that? But DT isn't like that and both he and Boyd will RS this upcoming year to ready themselves for a QB battle following Masoli!

If anything, I think DT is a Kid who loves the competition and has a lot of confidence in himself.

He certainly didn't seem discouraged about the possibility of having to compete with CH, or the chance that Pryor might come to Oregon last signing period... (Although I wonder if he didn't know TP was tOSU's... They supposedly communicated once in a while.)

Best answer is let them all come and compete. I am sure the convo between CK and this kid/parents goes a little like this.

Boyd/Parents "Would I play early? What about all that depth? How do you see me?"

CK "Sure we have a some depth at QB. You would have to come in and compete for the job. Can you do that? Every position, every year is an open competition with the best man winning. Do I think you have a shot at playing early? Yes, with hardwork and dedication I think your oppurtunity would come. But you have to earn it. Let me put it this way. If a player is afraid to compete to win his job, how can I trust him to win games for me?"

Or something like this. See the best thing for our team and the players is to have a legit competition within the team even to play. It keeps kids motivated. If a kid wants to transfer or not come here because he is afraid of competition you don't want them on your team, let alone leading it.

To answer the question, I'd still want Boyd, because Thomas is going to need some competition, and if he transfers at the first sign of difficulties, he's not going to be good anyways. But Thomas won't transfer. He wasn't worried about possibly competing with Pryor last year.
