Notable

* Oregon is now 12th in national rankings, just 1 point behind Michigan and Texas to sneak in the top-10. Getting Jayson Jones and/or Malachi Wideman should put them in the top-10.

* Washington is 15th, and over 1 point lower in average rating. Savell Smalls fell 18 spots, and is two spots out of being relegated to 4-star status. If ESPN updates their rankings he might lose that fifth star. Looks like Jimmy Lake needs to find some new material to talk about.

* Trey Benson and Maceal Afease rocketed up the rankings. Both are still 3-stars in the composite but are now 4-stars in 247's rankings.

* Sewell went up a bit to 13th, Flowe went down a bit to 6th. Manning is at 30. Giving us three 5-stars.

I guess these are still being updated. Smalls has fallen to 58th in their rankings, losing his 5-star status.

These rankings are so bad. They were justifying dropping flowe by potential draft pick number..... yet flowe is still higher than ngata on the all time. I am confused

They need to make some changes to how the composite is calculated, especially since ESPN has basically given up on having a recruiting service.

Case in point, with Smalls -

Rivals: 48th overall. 247: 58th overall. ESPN: 15th overall. Making his composite: 29th.

And with Flowe, guy has an amazing senior season culminating in the USA Today national defensive player of the year, wows at camps, and gets a slight ding.

Agreed, ESPN shouldn’t be in the recruiting game. They were so good when they had Tom Lemming, the OG recruiting expert. But layoffs have made it a one man operation with some interns. Even a few years ago they at least had a regional expert. Now it’s just getting the big name and sticking a number.

Listening to Prehm try to explain how composite is calculated is mind numbing. He contradicts himself constantly.

Prehm is good if nothing gets too technical his game breakdowns are about as deep as a kid in middle school lol .
They must have got some real heat because they were pretty testy on their podcast.

In the 247 only rankings Washington is higher. They were before as well, their QB got a huge bump while Butterfield fell like 140 spots. The middle of their class has more 4-stars although in 247’s rankings we have two 5-stars in the composite it’s three. Jayson Jones also tumbled in 247 rankings to about 500.

But every person who’s not trying to pump up Washington uses the composite.

just for comparing sake-- I looked to see where Jordon Scott was rated by 247 and the recruiting services. (I am not in any way saying the Jayson Jones is going to be better as I agree with the lack of first step).

Composite 882 overall and 62 ranked DT in the country.
247 ranked him 1333 nationally 85th in the country.
