Flip Season

Post by GoDucksIn09 »

We have roughly 2 weeks to go before the early signing period. Cristobal has stated that everyone on the verbal commitment list is expected to sign on the early signing period. My question is this, who should duck fans be most concerned about being flipped. We already lost one to USC. Are there others? On the umm flip side, who is Oregon hoping to flip?

Davies has been rumored to only have one foot in since he committed, but it sounds like he is still strong. That's good, because now it sounds like Perkins is wavering. Why the Ducks can't get a decent pipeline of DB's going, I will never know.

When your team has the recruits - flip season sucks.

Perkins was one of the ones from the beginning that I was worried about. JuCo guys seem to flip more, he’s playing in the Deep South, has had offers from top programs there and this time of year they cannibalize each other’s classes and someone winds up needing another player. We could really use Perkins, even if his ceiling is being Haki Woods that’s still a net win. But I think he’s better than Woods, and we desperately need corners.

Maybe someone like Tilmon or that kid from Alabama, I never feel sure about those types of commits especially with no fall visits and the virus.

Losing Davies would suck, so let’s hope we don’t have to. With the Ware-Hudson loss I really hope we can fill it with another quality DB. No idea on Ceyair Wright, but he mentions Oregon a lot.

I am plenty fine with Perkins flipping. Oregon needs DB help, but I don't believe he's the answer.

Honestly, having spots open for the portal is totally fine in my book. There will be a ton of grad transfers this year

Also, we got Jayson Jones and Robby ashford late in the cycle. Mario will be hot on the trail and won’t just sit back and sulk.

The transfer portal is going to be huge. We will have more decommitments, I am certain of it, but if we have 5 open spots for transfers, that could end up helping this team far more than 5 freshmen.

So far, Perkins and KWH, but any guy that lives in Southern California is a risk to flip late to the Trojans this year. I would be surprised if Davies sticks with the Ducks, for example.

You mentioned Tilmon, him and McNeil seem like possible flips due to distance.

I'd like to see MC go after an offensive lineman, a safety and cornerback in the grad transfer market

I believe QB11s father said exactly the same. Apparently his father is an NFL Scout. My question to this would be, if this is the case and so many evaluators see flaws, why are top schools still offering him (Alabama, Florida etc)???

Anyone have a beat on whether coaches are trying to poach commits from elsewhere? Every year, it seems we get a handful.

It’s looking like Perkins will be going to play at Mississippi State. I’m guessing he wanted to stay home, but if that was a football decision it’s pretty curious.

The staff is kicking the tires on 3-star CB Marvin Covington out of Texas. 31st ranked CB in 247’s rankings but lower in the composite, which is borderline 4-star for them, as the #28 CB is a 4-star. Offers from TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech and the like: https://247sports.com/Player/Marvin-Covington-46110011/

Ceyair Wright, #7 corner 76th overall. Long considered a USC lean since he’s from LA and is also an actor, playing a younger Lebron James in the new Space Jam movie. His recruitment has been slow. But great news: he visited Oregon two weeks ago. He wasn’t allowed to visit the coaches or facilities but they were face timing him the whole time, have put him in touch with Spencer Paysinger since he’s now a Hollywood type himself. Wright has also gone to Michigan and Notre Dame. Those two and USC are looking like the main competition. Article on his Oregon visit: https://www.google.com/amp/s/247sports. ... 09670/Amp/

Nathaniel Wiggins #6 CB, 75th overall. From Atlanta, committed to LSU. There has been some talk of him reconsidering LSU, and they’re the favorites for another highly ranked CB. Both USC and Oregon were recruiting him.

There are a few other four stars from California committed to Arizona State and Virginia Tech that are pretty good, I don’t know if our staff was interested beyond just offering but you never know what will happen during flip season. It seems like Cristobal and company get us an unexpected late addition every year.

Strong summary -- Thank you!

There is rumor that a couple of the Ducks current commits are wobbling: (I have nothing solid, just talk)

Timon: https://247sports.com/player/terrell-tilmon-46082529/

Jaylin Davies - His parents said he is still committed, but you know how these things go: https://247sports.com/player/jaylin-davies-46056063/

McNeil: (His brother opted out and declared for the NFL, so some believe the NC State threat is mitigated) https://247sports.com/player/jabril-mcneill-46084698/

Curious-- Does anyone have any players that they would LOVE to see the Ducks flip OR pick up in the transfer portal?

There are two that I would like to see:

(DT) Siaki Ika: https://247sports.com/Player/Siaki-Ika- ... ol-191918/

(CB) Derek Stingley: https://247sports.com/player/derek-stingley-89107/ (rumor to be leaving)

(S) Jaden Lars Woodbey: https://247sports.com/player/jaiden-lars-woodbey-84564/

If and it's a big IF the Ducks could land 3 players like the above and JTT, can you imagine? Immediately addresses run issues (Siaka and JTT). Upgrades talent and depth at CB and adds a playmaking true S. The three areas the Ducks need help.

I am of the belief that this is a throw away season. This is solely about development across both sides of the ball. I am seeing improvement (really strong improvement). I also expect more younger players to start playing. The Ducks will have a 2-3 year window starting next season. (could be 4-5 depending on Ty Thompson).

Getting back to the 4th quarter program will change the landscape again in favor of the Ducks. It used to be an advantage. Now it's not. They will get back to it and it will become an advantage again.

I just watched Marvin Covington's film and that would be a fantastic pickup by the Ducks. Based on the lack of coaches flowing him on twitter, it doesn't look like he's a real priority, though.

Thanks to Jimmy and Stu for the updates.

Tilmon: tweeted picture of him in Oregon uniform today, saying that he's signing on December 16th.

Stingley: I'd be shocked if he leaves LSU. He's draft eligible next year and an absolute first round lock if not the first CB taken. He wouldn't transfer to sit out a year.

McNeil: I'd hate to lose him, but not as worried about LB like I am with other position groups.

Davies: If we lose him, and especially to USC, that would hurt.

Woodbey: haven't seen anything about him and Oregon, he's trying really hard to grad transfer to Washington based on all appearances. Immediately eligible.

Raesjon Davis is another name I forgot. LBs aren't the biggest priority, but they've never stopped recruiting him and he is really good. Things are shaky at LSU. He's not signing until the late NSD, his dad says its still LSU.

As for what I want? DB and DT or big DE top the list. If Big Joe can't get JTT and maybe Ika as well it will be time to talk about his job security. I've been meaning to post here or on reddit about this, but it's frightening how bad he has been at recruiting for his own position group. He's barely recruited any DL in four years (KT, Kristian Williams, Brandon Dorlus are not his recruits) and it's time to ask if he's the right guy for the job.

People have to remember that the NCAA is likely going to pass a one-time transfer exception in January with an effective date of August 1s, 2021. Having to wait one year to play is going to be a thing of the past.

I forgot about that. It will be interesting to see if that really happens this year, the NCAA isn’t the most reliable.

With LSU I totally missed that they’ve had to self impose some sanctions, so players may be able/want to leave. I just checked out TigerDroppings and they’re not happy over there.

New DB offer went out to DB Dontae Balfour, a 3* out of FL with multiple SEC offers (Auburn, Mizzou, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Tennessee.)
