Gotta wonder why Uncle Phil and Oregon isn’t getting into bidding wars, if it’s a principle/ethical thing or if they just don’t think it’s worth it. Seems at this point the transfer portal is the way to go for QB’s, these 5 star QB’s are far too risky for that much as 5 star QB’s are college busts quite often.

Probably because they can't tell a kid "play here and we'll pay you $8 million." It's one of the few rules regarding NIL deals. Either some of the schools are challenging the ncaa to stop them, or they're using wording in the deals that allow them to get around the rules. One has to think that at some point something will be done about it.

It’s both, they are using unique wording in their contracts however anyone with half a brain can see $8M is way more than what any high school athlete is worth, this goes way beyond NIL. For example Nico has to be present in Knoxville in order to collect the money, it has nothing to do with him committing to Tennessee, he can commit anywhere he just won’t get money unless if he is physically present in Knoxville. This is somewhat a creative attempt around the rule but in reality anyone can see what it truly is.

I think they are trying to set up the NIL collective to benefit everyone rather than a few, along with risk assessment and all of that. I think it'll be about 2 years of insanity, and then start to level out as high priced deals don't work out. I think these big deals end up creating more friction on a team than anything, as we start to see boosters request coaches play certain guys, because they are paying them big money, or just general envy around them from the guys that aren't getting these kind of deals. I think the Ducks are just trying to take a smarter long-term approach to the NIL rather than this all-in approach that a few schools are trying out.

How screwed would the big NIL payers have been 3 years ago, when Thompson was a 5 star QB recruit, yet can’t crack the starting job a couple of years into his gig? He could be a complete bust by the looks of it. I’m assuming these NIL payers are doing their research, but like posters above, there will be a shaking out of the system. Hopefully it comes down to a more merit based fund. But if these funds are willing to spend millions on speculation, good luck to them.

How long will it take for the money to dry up once more than half these QBs never live up to their rankings? UO should focus on solid 4* kids and transfer portal types. The 4* kid isn’t expecting to be starter game 1, and can be developed. If he doesn’t then let him walk. Then hit the portal for a starter. This year alone there was at least 10 legit starters in the portal.

Oregon is out of it for Rashada. Looks like they're setting their sights on Dante Moore and Avery Johnson instead. Moore won't be committing until the fall while Johnson is visiting later this month so it may be a while before the staff has their 2023 QB.
