Starting a thread to track the performances of Ducks commits during their high school seasons.

Gonna let you all in on a secret - 9 times out of 10, you know a kid is underrated or overrated based on his senior year film, well before he lands on campus.

I'll kick off with putting on some highlights from QB commit Michael van Buren's first game, as St Frances (MD) played Burford (GA) in a top 10 matchup.

MVB and St Frances got skunked and lost 0-17. That's a bad, bad look for a kid who is expected to go to a high D1 to score 0 points in a high school game. That said, the highlights in the video indicate that MVB was under pressure all game long, did a great job of keeping his eyes down the field and extending plays, handling lots of low snaps, and actually puts the ball on the money numerous times but the ball is dropped. He had two TDs taken off the board, one due to a penalty and another from a receiver stepping out of the back of the endzone. He did make one mistake, forcing a ball under duress that ended up being an INT. I'll grab stats if I can find them.

I'm broadly interested in seeing how all of our commits and major targets perform in their senior seasons, but a few especially.

- Trent Fergusion (6'7, 300) is a 3* kid who has played 1 year of football after being a lacrosse player primarily. On film, he looks more athletic than JacQawn McRoy (6'8, 365), who is a high 4*.

- Both quarterbacks, naturally. Van Buren has played a lot of football and plays for a national powerhouse, so I think he should look almost like a college sophomore at this juncture. Luke Moga is more raw, but after attending every camp and having a season under his belt, I'd like to see a lot more than another season of 50% completion rate. Will we see Moga transition from an athlete to a quarterback this year?

- The tight ends. Right now, there are 3 committed, and speaking frankly, none blow me away on film. I'd be a little surprised if all three sign scholarships come December, so I'll be following along to see who shows the most promise.

- Does anyone not look like an Oregon level player. Depth of talent means hitting on a high percentage of your recruits, and is one of the greatest benefits of signing tons of 4* and 5* kids. Not everyone will be a star, but your 2s and sometimes 3s really have to be good late in the season.

It is funny that 247 has Ferguson listed as the lowest rated recruit in the class. If he has a similar work ethic to his brother, combined with the measurables he possesses, he definitely has a chance to become a significant contributor down the road.

He's not related to Terrance Ferguson like that as Trent is from Salem while Terrance is from the Denver area.

Van Buren is pretty accurate from what I’ve seen vs Chaminade. Not the biggest arm but it goes right where it needs to

Ify is going to be an instant dude at UO. He and Austin are going to be a problem for BIG WRs. Guy is completely shutting down two different 5* WR today, including one who is headed to tOSU. If you put together a ideal build for a CB, you would get Ify and his 80” wing span. Honestly seeing him go against two top 5 WRs, and shut them down, he looks like a 5* CB.

MVB on the other hand, maybe missing so many starters on O is hurting him, but so far I’m not super impressed. He should probably have another 100 yards and a TD if he hit guys in stride. I won’t be shocked to see Moga, who has more tools but is unpolished, beat him out on the depth chart.

His O line doesn’t seem to be helping him any, he’s consistently had pressure in his face most of the game. He kind of reminds me of Vernon Adams.

MVB has his ups and downs. Generally understands where to put it. I want to say that Darron Thomas was effective with minus arm strength, but I think he still had a little more juice than MVB. We'll see what happens when he gets more muscle on him. Moga is a project, so neither may start for Oregon in reality.

Neither are as impressive and AS Jr, who is also a year younger than both guys.

From what I saw he seemed to be rushing his throws, maybe anticipating some poor protection, leading to some balls behind receivers.
