Oregon WBB with Another Solid Win

Post by ICamel »

Beat the UC Irvine Anteaters 71-43. UCI beat Oregon State in their previous game four days ago in Corvallis.
10 of 11 Duck players get in the scoring column.
Katie Fiso leads Oregon with 11 points.
Ducks with consistent scoring..........Q1 = 17, Q2 = 19, Q3 = 19, Q4 = 16
Next game @ Illinois on Saturday 12/28 at Noon.

The Illinois game should be a good test for the Oregon women, particularly on the road. The Ducks will probably need to start hitting 3's at a little better clip to win these sorts of road games against solid conference opponents. Even in their last 2 blowout wins at home, the Oregon women have shot under 30% from 3 each game. :|

I love the overall game of Deja Kelly and Ari Long and these last 2 blowouts were perfect times to try to shoot your way out of a deep slump but it didnt happen. Going into the regular season for those two when you're wide open for a 3 you are also wide open to penetrate the lane. They are both above average finishers at the basket and good free throw shooters. Time to have those two play old school. 13 and 14% 3 point shooting hurts the team.

In the Graves era I have never seen the season plus/minus stat be dominated so heavily by the bench players. A different team than we have seen they really remind me of some of the ASU teams that came at you in waves, were handsy and pesky as heck on defense but had some bad scoring streaks.

A few thoughts having watched every game this year.
The team is good/ok. I wouldn't say it's a dominant team that can contend for a final four. But it's oceans better than last year obviously.
-Deja Kelly and Peyton Scott need to step up if the team wants to make it to the next level. Deja Kelly seems a little checked out the last few games, maybe looking ahead to her broadcasting career already. Peyton Scott gets open looks from her moves, but she's missing these open shots, a lot. They both get double digits here and there but from the amount of times they throw a shot up.
-The bench is good. Really good. The last row with Katie Fiso, Ehis and Ari Long is raw but really really good. The 2nd wave with Falatea and Rambus is quite solid.
-The team has good players but just very sloppy and I don't see the chemistry there yet. Sometimes they refuse to pass to the open player, or in the breakways they don't trust the next person to make a shot.
Should be an interesting season.
