QUACK! Boston College G Fred Payne commits
Oregon has finally landed a starter quality PG in Boston College G Fred Payne. He had a breakout season this past year by averaging over 15 points, 4 rebounds, and nearly 3 assists per game. He's at his best when attacking the rim and creating for others but can hit threes if he's open. Still have to think Oregon will be after at least one more guard since the current backup PG is either Easter or Jasper Johnson.

Not gonna lie, his shooting percentages greatly worry me. He also doesn't come off as a true PG at all.
Hopefully it's all just a product of playing on a bad team and being forced to take lots of bad shots. But that's a big assumption. Hope it works out! Welcome Fred.

He's just in the process of shooting his way out of a 3 year slump. Should be out of it anytime now.UOducksTK1 wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2026 12:56 pm Not gonna lie, his shooting percentages greatly worry me. He also doesn't come off as a true PG at all.

More like his numbers were mostly getting better the more he played. He shot 27.3% FG/0.0% 3PT in 5 games his true FR year before redshirting, improved to 36.0%/33.7% as a backup playing 30 games as a RS FR, and shot 39.3%/ 31.5% while starting 30 of 31 games this past season.GrandpaDuck wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2026 3:03 pmHe's just in the process of shooting his way out of a 3 year slump. I like your narrative, but we also have to consider the option that he isn't the best shooter and may not be for us either.

In EBYL play, he shot 28% from the arc.
