Distance seems to be more of an issue for football recruits than basketball recruits. I don't have any hard numbers, but I do follow recruiting fairly closely, and it seems to me that it's much more common to see a basketball recruit go across the country for school.

Good question. Seems like we have gotten basketball recruits from Illinois, Michigan, etc.

Seems there would be less offers considering that each team has so few offers to give. The elite taleent can't be "stockpiled" at the USC's, Miami's, OSU's and such. They have to travel to get a schollie more often than not.

Again, I doubt there is any difference between basketball and football players locating across country. The vast difference between squad sizes means that there are more likely to be more parent/distance problems. Simple logic.

basketball players are used to being away from home now a days. AAU teams travel across the country for tournaments and are always on the road it seems during spring and early summer.

Just in general i think this is true. But at Oregon, Kent and our assistants have very good midwest connections so, with our football team coaching staff not having those connections. I think this is more true at Oregon than many other schools.

As it turns out, we have found that a lot of these recruits that the basketball team has gotten over the years from different parts of the country haven't been as good as advertised anyway. Maybe it would be different in football, who knows!!!!

Could be because Kent and Payne and there hook-up world wide wes are amazing recruiters.

I would rather get 3* guys that can be coached to play and develop (Bellotti and the football team) than 4-5* guys that are not coached so they underachieve and don't develop (Kent and the basketball team) So I would rather have a good coach that is decent at recruiting than a terrible coach that is one of the best recruiters. We have seen the results.

Um i'm pretty sure most of the guys on the duck basketball team are 3 stars.

I know this is wayyyy off topic but since a few mentioned basketball... I wonder how many critics Kent will have once this team he has matures. The guy is coaching a team that is like 80% freshmen. Yes they are struggling mightily but I recognize the fact they are very very young and in a conference that is very tough and Kent probably has the youngest team out there in the Pac 10. Please keep in mind in the last 25 years only one coach has got the basketball team to the Elite 8... and that is Kent. All the whiners need to recognize the facts of how young team is and be patient. Do I enjoy seeing them lose every game.. absolutely not but I also recognize what he is working with in comparison to the maturity of other teams.
