I wish Gaines and Tuinei were locks, but apparently the coaching staff wants to make sure they get a JC reciever in this class.

That's not enough of a difference to not want a player. Cardenas is also a 3 star on rivals. If we lost out on Gaines or Tunei, I would welcome Cardenas aboard. Not sure why people are so against it.

There's some info surfacing that indicates that Tuinei's LOI could be in this weekend. That would just leave the Gaines saga to be resolved.

As for comparing Tuinei vs Cardenas, well no one knows for sure, but look at it this way:

1. LT is a 4 to play 3
2. he's much bigger
3. he was offered

Cardenas is likely a good player, but keep in mind that it's past LOI and nobody has claimed him. He's a fall back guy for sure at this point and IMO, we won't take him if either Tuinei or Gaines gets in.

I would rather have the schollie available for next yr. Even if the JC's don't get in there is depth at the wr position.

Coaches can offer a 1 year schollie with conditions I believe.(I could be wrong)

According to those who know, we are slightly overbooked now at WR if both Tuinei & Gaines get in. Don't count on this JC to be a Duck unless we lose both Gaines & Tuinei (not just one of them).

Jamere Holland: JR
Aaron Pflugrad: JR
Tyrece Gaines: JR
Jeffrey Maehl: JR
Chris Harper: SO
Lavasier Tuinei: SO
Garrett Embry: SO
Blake Cantu: FR
Darrell Hawkins: FR (most believe he'll be a WR)
Diante Jackson: FR
Nick Cole: FR
Braxton Lane: FR
*Dion Jordan: RS FR (he's been moved to TE, but don't rule out he could go back to WR)

Keep in mind that Rory Cavaille will be a SR and will be on the roster. I don't believe he has a schollie, but he might. Mike Mackie is another walk-on the Ducks like, but since he'll only be a RS SO this Fall, I'm not sure if he'll be invited back or want to come back. Just don't see room for another JC when we have we'll have 5 true FR on the roster if Lane comes.

I wonder if we will choose to not renew these schollies to give us more room for the 2010 class? I hate revoking scholarships from our current players, but it would be great to be able to bring in more great kids next year.

They both graduate after next season anyway, so whether or not their scholarships are renewed for next season will have no impact on how many slots are available for the 2010 class.

Nobody said it was impossible to be a good WR if you're under 6 foot. But it's a lot harder.
