This bball program is such a joke right now & a statement like that proves it.

I would like to see what they would do if, last year, MB beat Utah St, then lost every other game. HE WOULD BE GONE. But Kent gets a pass because...? He's black? Are they afraid of the flack they'd catch if they fire an African American? I honestly don't know why the thought of firing Ernie is rediculous to them.

I don't know who Kilkenny talks to, but nobody I know and nobody here thinks they are a basektball power. That doesn't mean you cannot strive to be the best or at least better and should be satisfied with mediocrity. A lot of posters here have seen more of Kent than Kilkenny has. Pat has done a great job so far with the new arena, baseball stadium etc, but it's time for him to wake up and smell the roses. Besides, if he really evaluated what Kent has done, it's not that impressive.

Good point on the comparison to football. If Oregon football went 0 for 9 in conference, you could bet that there would be turmoil and Belloti would have been gone. Why does basketball seem to get ignored?

That's the thing. They aren't even settling for mediocrity, they are settling for being one of the worst teams in the NCAA basketball & in Pac 10 history. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear a comment like that from Kilkenny. He's pretty much saying it's rediculous for fans to expect us to win ONE game. That really pisses me off.

Hopefully he changes his tune or at least some major donors do, when the new arena is completely empty. I know I'm going to have a hard time putting my money, especially in this economic time, into a program that is settling for BS like this.

We have never been a football power either but are close to becoming one, I don't see why the basketball program does not have the same expectations. Why build a new multi-million dollar arena if you don't expect to become at least a contender? Kilkenny has been great to get the funds to get the baseball program back and for the new arena but otherwise I would say his expectations for the athletic program are not on par with the money being spent. I think Bellotti will do well with getting donor money but more importantly he will do well to make sure the three "big" programs (football, basketball, baseball) are competitive and will do what it takes to make them competitive even if that means firing a coach who has done good things for the program. I would like to see Oregon as a school that has consistent seasons as a contender in both football and basketball like Florida, Oklahoma, etc. and in order to do that I think a new basketball coach is needed to start the process.

I agree with you that we are not a basketball power... But to hear a statement coming like that from the AD like we should never be thought of as a basketball power just makes me sick. It's a losers mentality.

If they should be a 500 team, who is the leader of this team? At crunch time who do you expect to step up and lead them to victory? The only player even close enough to fitting that role is TP, and all he does is throw up deep threes. This team has no player leadership.

I think Kilkenny knows what he is doing, you don't telegraph a firing. He will sit down with Kent at the end of the season and then decide. My bet is Ernie is gone. In basketball most recruiting is done in the early signing period. So there is no rush to change ships and most likely, the next coach is still coaching and won't want to commit to leave his current team until the end of the season. I respect Kent and especially for all he has done for our program, but I feel it is now time to change coaches.

I really wish that was the case but Kilkenny said that he would throw up if he had to fire Kent.....Doesn't sound like Kent is going anywhere anytime soon.
