watch his videos and you'll understand why Chip is not gonna "move on" until the LOI is faxed to whichever school.

That doesn't even make sense! Just because a kid is playing hard to get (if that is what you call this) doesn't mean you give up on him. You have to understand regardless of whether or not we need him, the impact of getting the #1 recruit in the nation is HUGE!!!! We need this guy!slammer wrote:T. Pryor debacle. The way Brown (or Butler) handled the recruiting process is a debacle. Oregon, on the other hand, is just recruiting another student-athlete; being "in the race" doesn't harm the University or AD in any way.

I'll use my example from an earlier discussion...
So you meet this absolutely B-E-A-Utiful woman in pilates (if you don't like pilates, fill in the blank) and so you decide to go up and talk to her, and you really hit it off, you guys are laughing and having a great time. Then, you decide to ask her on a date. The date goes smoothly and after dinner and a movie, she says she wants to see you again. You guys talk every night on the phone, but can't get any plans going. Finally, you go on another date, and when you drop her off at her building, she asks you up to her place for a cup of coffee. You think that it would be rude to deny, so you follow her up into her apartment. once in her apartment you guys have some coffee, and she tells you she has something to confess...she's engaged to this ugly-ass 400 pound bohemith.
so you sit there, contemplating what you should say next, when she tells you that she's ready to leave him for you. You are ecstatic. You tell her that you are ready to take your relationship to the next level. She says she still needs to think things over, but you are in the lead. She says she needs to sleep on it, and you give her a kiss goodnight and drive home...You still talk to her and see her every now and again, but she hasn't made a decision. It's so frustrating to think how she could even be thinking this over. This other guy has lots of potential, but he just makes bad decision after bad decision and drives his life into the ground (*cough*shannon*cough*) Meanwhile, you are a very good-looking guy who just graduated from college, and has friends in VERY high places. Your future is looking great, this other guy has a dead-end job at Cold Stone Ice Creamery. You keep thinking to yourself, I should just leave her...but this woman will complete you, she's more than just a lover to you, she's your best friend. You can talk to her about anything, you know that she will always love you, you know this is the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with. She is what could take you life to the next level.
Now tell me...is this the kind of woman you just LEAVE????
I think...not, Brown is a Dynasty. Bryce could single-handily bring Oregon out of obscurity. He is the one who can take this program to the next level. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance...You don't just leave that.
Man, I need a girlfriend

I was LOLing through out that whole thing. Maybe you should cool it on the romance novels cuz that analogy was way too good. Like you've been running it thru your head for AWHILE.gregspechtismyhero wrote:Man, I need a girlfriend
And don't worry, we could all use a GF, especially like the one in your fantasy.

Re: Bryce Brown + Oregon =
Fan reaction to the Brown recruiting story has almost become more fascinating to me than the outcome of the actual story.
What on earth compels a person to go out of their way to make these "debacle" statements? Just from a psychological perspective, I try to put myself in their shoes and I just can't make any sense of it.
Let's presume that it's true. The Brown situation is a debacle and him going to Oregon would be a disaster for the program. Even then, are people going out of their way to say this as some kind of genuine warning? Are they hoping to steer people to say more negative things and scare the recruit away and thus avert catastrophe? Or, is it more about ego? An "I told you so" type of thing? Is it just to get attention? Or, is it some kind of defense mechanism where the person can't stand feeling disappointed. So, they preempt the situation by claiming a "we didn't want him anyway stance" up front.
It's just a weird phenomenon that the longer a recruitment goes on, no matter what the circumstances (good or bad), these kinds of statements start being thrown out. It happens on every teams forum at about the same rate. Too bad I'm not in school taking psych. This would be a study for a term paper.
As far as being like Pryor, I don't think so. There are quite a few differences. But, perhaps the feeling (and the pain?) from the Pryor situation is lingering?

I knew a girl in high school that said if she was to marry a guy, she'd try to meet as many guys as possible before the wedding to make sure he was "the one". I called her stupid, but with the relationship analogy, this reminded me of it. If I were Miami and my fiance, Bryce Brown, started dating other dudes, I'd kick her to the curb too. Bitch. =)

Maybe it's to share an opinion. I mean, in essence there's no purpose to posting on this board at all. Does your post help anything? Will it stop people from making these comments? Will it even be remembered in a week by anyone, including you? Hell, NONE of our posts likely make a real difference in the grand scheme of things. But that's okay, because it's fun for us to learn and discuss about a passion of ours.wheaton4prez wrote:Fan reaction to the Brown recruiting story has almost become more fascinating to me than the outcome of the actual story.

The point of this board is to share ideas with fellow Duck fans. That's probably why he made the statement. Not to get attention or any other unflattering reason you came up with.
Your post seemed pretty mean-spirited, and actually didn't make much sense. It was a false argument that insulted someone. My least favorite kind.

I agree with some of what you say here. In fact, that's what I was doing. Sharing an opinion.Tray Dub wrote:Maybe it's to share an opinion. However, where I disagree is in your suggestion that these types of posts are also simply "sharing of an opinion", hoping to "learn and discuss passion." Really, that's the whole reason for my idea. After about the 30th time someone has made such a statement and the reaction has been the same every time, there really is no longer anything to learn or discuss intelligently in that direction. I think "sharing an opinion" is not a very plausible explanation.
Furthermore, even if it was an act of sharing an opinion, is it not "the point of this board" or any discussion for that matter, to have a reaction. Is it not ok to have an opinion of an opinion? I didn't question why anyone has or shared an opinion. I questioned why that one specifically comes up in such a predictable way.Tray Dub wrote:The point of this board is to share ideas with fellow Duck fans. That's probably why he made the statement. I think it's ironic that you frame telling me that my post was mean-spirited with saying that it didn't make sense, was false and that it's your "least favorite kind." Is that kind-spirited?Tray Dub wrote:Your post seemed pretty mean-spirited, and actually didn't make much sense. It was a false argument that insulted someone. My least favorite kind.
I'm sorry if some of my theories were unflattering. But, don't you think that's a bit overly sensitive? I'm curious to know what the motivation is. I'm open to hear what other reasons people might have and to learn. I don't know. I just think it would be a little crazy for someone to just have hurt feelings over what I said rather than simply answer and clarify the way they see it.

I see where you're coming from with most of this. Really I do. And had your post been rephrased a little, I probly would've quoted it and said "word". But as it stands, I think it's kinda rude.wheaton4prez wrote:I agree with some of what you say here. In fact, that's what I was doing. Oversensitive? Maybe a little. This is the internet after all. But since I think your post was mean-spirited, I thought I should say something about it. It's not a super big deal though by any measure, I'm with you on that.
The dude doesn't post a lot. He may not know that this has been said before, or maybe he felt it needed repeating. I have no idea. And I definitely disagree with him. But I really do think he was sharing an opinion, and that IS the purpose of this board. It may not of been the most thought-out opinion, but it's an opinion and a discussion topic nonetheless.
It's totally fine to comment on his opinion. Hell, I was commenting on your comment of his comment (hah). My issues with it were I thought it was wrong and that it was presented kind of rudely, and it really didn't need to be.
Sometimes you can't flatter someone when you're trying to defend someone. But there's a difference between saying you were rude and you saying he's just seeking attention, namean?
I didn't really want to take the time to quote individual parts of your post, but I think you'll get what points each of my paragraphs were referring to.
And I should probly add that I do like your posts. They're usually smart and well thought-out, even if sometimes they're kinda pessimistic. This time I just thought that you were a little mean.
