What I took from this week in CFB...

Post by Student265 »

PAC10 IMO...

Oregon-Oregon vs Nevada looked like a PittBull square off with a two-legged hamster! It was that bad. What I liked was 0 TO's, only 3 Penalties, and only 21min of possession to score 69pts! It's a good sign!!

Stanford-They are as advertised! They are balanced in their attack on offense and there defense is one of the best untalked about and underrated defenses in the nation! They have only given up 57 total rushing yards...IN THE LAST 2 GAMES COMBINED!!!

ASU-They are very good and capable of beating Oregon and Stanford if they caught them on the rite day. ASU dose not have to play Stanford during the regular season, so they would only have to play them once in order to win the PAC12. That helps!!

USC-They have as much talent as any team in the nation! They have won there last two games, but not as convincingly as many thought they should have. USC is still a force to be reckoned with and is still one of the best teams in the conference. I am confident that they will put it together and possibly give ASU, Oregon, and Stanford a fight, if not win!

AZ-Nick Foles is one of the best QB's in the nation and he has some very good WR's. This team may have gotten throttled by a very good OSU team, but don't underestimate them. They are very well capable of ruining anybody listed aboves dreams of a BCS game.

WSU-I am moving WSU out of the bottom feeders category and slightly above the “not going to a bowl” category...not much, but a little. Why?
  • M Lobbestael-34/32, 361yds, 5TD's, & OINT's.
  • Back-to-back thrashings of lesser opponents=2-0
I hope this team dose the biggest turnaround in recent memory. WSU fans deserve it!!

Cal, Utah, UC, UCLA, and UW are all decent teams that can pull an upset on any given day and it's likely one or two of them will. However, these teams will sit in the middle of the PAC and beat each other with no consistency except none (1 if we are lucky) will get to bowl eligibility.

OSU-The new bottom feeder!!

Misc:

Bama-The best defense I think I have ever seen!! No team will line up with them in any kind of traditional offense and beat them. The only way to beat Bama would be to spread them out, but even then...

Can't wait until LSU and Bama hook up!! At this point I have to say Bama has the advantage, but there is still a lot of football to be played!!

UGA, UF, Miss St, and Tennessee are to the SEC, what Cal, UCLA, Utah, UC, and UW are to the PAC12. The only difference is that most of them play 4 weak OOC games so some, if not all, will go to bowl games!
UK and Ole Miss are the bottom feeders of the SEC this year. Vandy might be a little better, but not much!

Opinions?? :?

Stanford also played two huge cream puffs. They didn't destroy Duke like they should have. I still need to see them play someone.

No disagreement as to the quality of competition. However, they beat their cream puffs better then most and holding two teams to less then .90yds per rushing attempts is amazing. Only 4 or 5 tea,s in the nation were capable of that. Also, 44-14 is a pretty good beating. Probably would have been be more if not for a tipped ball that was INT and returned for 76yds and a TD.

Funny thing...WSU was also in the top 5 for rushing defense vs. creempuffs!

Entirely possible! I hope one is vs. Oregon! ASU, USC, AZ, and anybody else except OSU is capable of handing them their 2nd and 3rd.

So your definition of most is one

UGA - Boise, Georgia Tech, Costal Carolina, New Mexico State
UF - Florida State, Florida Atlantic, Furman
Miss State - Memphis, La Tech, Tenn-Martin, UAB
Tenn - Montana, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Middle Tenn

Cincinnati is coming off a bad season but they are by no means a cupcake, and Georgia Tech is a strong unit. Boise and Florida State are top 5 teams (I know...I know, you don't believe in the rankings. Still does not mean they aren't as good as advertised). Also...never underestimate La Tech, they have a good team to, given most Pac and SEC teams should beat them on paper, but those are the teams that can sneak up on you.

With that said the Pac-12 schedule for the teams you named are impressive...STUPID....but impressive.

I need to see some more football before I start saying who is like whom.
ASU-They are very good and capable of beating Oregon and Stanford if they caught them on the rite day. ASU dose not have to play Stanford during the regular season, so they would only have to play them once in order to win the PAC12. That helps!!
I was VERY impressed by them. I’m glad they aren’t on our schedule. They did catch a lucky break with Mizzou being down to one RB, not taking anything away from the win of course….just saying.

They by far was the most impressive Pac team this weekend. Well, at least out of the 3 games I watched.
Cal, Utah, UC, UCLA, and UW are all decent teams that can pull an upset on any given day and it's likely one or two of them will. However, these teams will sit in the middle of the PAC and beat each other with no consistency except none (1 if we are lucky) will get to bowl eligibility.
UCLA is going to lose A LOT of games this year from what I've seen in the first two weeks, so will UC. I'm willing to bet you now though that Utah and Washington will be going to a bowl....judgment is still out on Cal for me..

The two that I will give you is BSU and FSU.

GT is a mediocre team in a bad conference (6-6 last year with Loss to AF in bowl game), the only BCS conference that is worse then the ACC is the Big E and Cincinnati went 2-5 in the Big E last year, and LA Tech went 4-4 last year while playing in the WAC. Granted all these teams could pull an upset, but that would have been like Nevada beating Oregon!

Now lets say that FSU beats UF. That would meat that UF and UGA would have to pick up 3 W's apiece. With games against Ole Miss, Vandy, and UK, they should be able to become bowl eligible.
Tenn and MSU should come away with 4 eaey wins and need only 2 victories in in-conference play to become bowl eligible.

I give UGA a lot of credit for their scheduling, for they are usually one of the more aggressive schedulers in the nation (dropping out of their series against Oregon notwithstanding) and always seem to schedule 1-2 pretty decent OOC games, and have their annual series with GT, who is almost always a top 40 team. Florida doesn't travel outside the state, which is lame, but they do have their annual rivalry with FSU. Generally PAC-12 and SEC OOC schedules over 3 games are pretty comparable, with the SEC having easier ones mostly by virtue of having another payout game. This is where the PAC-12 needs to follow the SEC's lead, and start only scheduling 8 conference games, as to not beat up on each other and keep an extra 1-3 teams out of bowls. I was all for playing everyone when it was the PAC-10, as it determined a true champion, even at the cost of the extra losses, but now that we've moved on to a divisional format, the potential increase in records, bowl teams, and thus conference prestige should not be forsaken for keeping 1 more familiar rival. I like seeing big games against big teams early in the season, and I'm not saying everyone should play the Citadel on a weekly basis, but if you get more teams to bowls, you'll be getting those big-time match ups down the line anyways, but with an extra win in your pocket and more revenue for the conference.

Even if you eliminated the easiest game off each SEC teams schedule, they are really not even comparable:

PAC12 OOC vs. teams from BCS AQ conferences:

vs. Minn
vs. (@) LSU
@ Oklahoma St
vs. Missouri
@ Wisconsin
@ Duke
vs. Texas
@ Nebraska
vs Syracuse
@ Illinois
@ Ohio St
@ ND (twice)

SEC:
vs. Oregon
vs BSU (this deserves to be listed with the AQ'a)
@ Penn St.
vs. Cincinnati
vs. U CONN
@ Clemson (twice)
vs. Louisville
@ WVU
vs Texas A&M
vs. FSU
@ GT
@ WF

These are just the AQ teams. I haven't even looked at the non-AQ's and 1AA's.

It is this OOC schedule combined with the 8 game conference schedule that is undoubtedly costing the PAC12 bowl bids, rankings, perception, and in turn BCS bowl bids. Now we add a conference championship game... :? But on the other hand, would yall rather see Oregon play AZ next week, or another cupcake? Do we really care what the rest of the nation thinks. Are willing to fold in order to be more competitive in a popularity contest, in hopes of getting to a mythical national championship? The PAC12 can continue to do what it is doing in hopes of changing the game for the better, or we can fade into crowd...
