I wouldn't be surprised to see Lowe recruited as a DB. He's a little smaller than we like our WR'schump01284 wrote:id like to see us take Safety too, and players that can play ROV. maybe 1 or 2 more soild CB or DL

We need at least 1 top flight RB, preferrably over 200lbs, and top flight QB in this next class.

I like the idea of adding a JC running back. It would be tough to get lucky and get someone like Blount, but we need more experience at that position after this season. I also agree that we need a top qb.

Didn't mean to sound like I thought 4 RB's is a crazy idea. I'm no recruiting expert. I was just putting myself in recruits shoes or maybe the context of a recruiting battle like we had with Brown. It sure seems like recruits eventually shy away from a program if there are already a bunch of committed backs.
I'd like to see 1 JC RB, 2 HS and 2 QB's next year. The rest should be mostly linemen.

You never know, there's a chance that some top notch WR's will become interested in UO after what could be potentially a very successful year for JM and the receiving corp. I know we rely on the run a lot, but with JM's improvement with throwing the ball it might open up the offense a little bit and allow for more passing plays/more balanced attack.
My two cents...

Re: Prospects I think we end up with
Grant and Clay are special running backs. Special in that they in that they bring so much to the table with their abilities. Outside of the spread I don't think either would be dominate back and would be better suited for the slot. Even there they wouldn't use the most of their potential.
What makes these multi-demensional backs so deadly is that they can turn a corner at warp speed, match up with a linebacker and run right by him after the catch, or go streaking down the field for a deep post.
What makes these guys tick however is that bruising big back that starts comes in and pounds on the defense making them tired and lulled to sleep by his "slower" speed and power. Just when the defense is panting and drawing in on the line of scrimmage before the snap you insert the scat back and say "engage" and off to warp speed you go leaving the defense behind.
I am not saying LaMichael James, Ethan Grant, or Brennen Clay are going to be like Reggie Bush. But I will say they will all be used the same way he was at USC. You will see them line up behind the qb, share the backfield with a bigger back, split out in the slot, out wide with an iso, coming out of the backfield with a slower linebacker covering them.
For how versitle these scat backs are I'd not be surprised to see us take two power backs and redshirt one and then take two scat backs and redshirt one.
Personally I think we end up with 3 overall backs in this class.

that make sense Mops, but Do we need to fill spot on D side? are we good for now on CB/S/ROV? is there any players that we are looking for that can play ROV or Safety on D?

It is a pretty nice dream list. I doubt we would take 4 rb's in one class... even 3 might be a stretch. We also need some really good defnesive players although it seems we usually do well recruiting them.. we just do not have a DC that gets them to play up to potential. Next year will be best shot at winning Pac 10 outright.. I just hope we do not have to score 60 every game just to win.

Re: Prospects I think we end up with
From a numbers standpoint, the biggest needs on the defensive side of the ball in the next recruiting class are at safety and defensive tackle. After next season, there will be 4 scholarship safeties and 5 scholarship defensive tackles left on the roster. Both of those numbers are well below ideal. The Ducks need to land a couple of players at each of those positions, if possible.chump01284 wrote:that make sense Mops, but Do we need to fill spot on D side? are we good for now on CB/S/ROV? is there any players that we are looking for that can play ROV or Safety on D?
Defensive end isn't as big of a need. There will be 8 scholarship defensive ends on the roster after next season, with only Tukuafu graduating. However, the season following that 3 defensive ends will graduate (Clark, Bair, Rowe). Still, unless two stud defensive ends that you can't turn down want to join the Ducks, there isn't a real pressing need to bring in more than 1 defensive end in the next recruiting class.
There is no pressing need at cornerback or linebacker either, unless some players in the most recently signed class fail to qualify or there is some attrition at those positions. The distribution of scholarships throughout the classes is great at cornerback. After next season, 8 scholarship corners will remain on the roster, which is perfect. It isn't necessary to bring in more than 1 corner in the next class. At linebacker, 12 scholarship linebackers will remain after next season, which is great. However, the season following that 4 linebackers will graduate and the season following that 5 linebackers will graduate, so the scholarship distribution at linebacker is going to become very top heavy in the near future. Thus, it would be wise for the coaches to try to bring in 1 linebacker (possibly 2) in this upcoming class in order to get them in the pipeline and help prepare for that upcoming mass exodus, even though in the short term there will be more scholarships devoted to the position than is ideal.

I don't know if it is just me, but I don't really understand all the interest in Slavin. After watching his film I wasn't to impressed with the kid. Now I'm not recruiter, but I just don't really see what all the hype is. I'm willing to eat crow though so we will see.

Re: Prospects I think we end up with
There isn't necessarily a great deal of hype. I mean, he hasn't been offered by the Ducks yet or anything. The coaches are in contact with him and he will be coming to Oregon's Junior Day, so he is just a guy for us fans to keep an eye on, just like the coaches are keeping an eye on him. He has good size for a receiver and some speed, so it isn't like he is completely devoid of tools that could potentially help him succeed at the D1 level.hermistonduck wrote:I don't know if it is just me, but I don't really understand all the interest in Slavin. We keep saying we could take a bunch of RB's in this class, so I looked some up on Rivals. Anybody know our chances with Michael Dyer?
