Curious to hear Bud's thoughts since he is closer to this situation
I don't think Gary Patterson is one to talk for one, his team has had A LOT more problems than LSU has of late with the whole drug ring thing. Second for people who aren't close to this situation it appears a lot worst. Hill punched a guy in a bar that called him a n*gger. Did he do it by "sucker" pouching the frat boy...yes. Does he need to be punished...yes. Does he need to be kicked off the team...no.
I think a lot of people are blowing this out of proportion because when he was in high school a girl a month or so shy of 15 gave a blow job to Hill and one of his friends in the school locker room before he came to LSU. As a result of that incident, Hill sat out a year before coming to LSU.
Thanks for your response and I pretty much agree with you. It is okay to have an opinion but to voice it the way he did is rather Bush. If you or your administration decided to suspend your player then fine. If you don't like how the opposition handles their internal business then fine. To voice your resentment so adamantly to the media as GP did...not cool. First off not every punishment v. crime is static and comparable. Usually when you are speaking of either player discipline or University discipline (eg UofO) you are mostly comparing apples and oranges. This was also why when people were in arms over the Ducks' punishment because they were tying to compare linearly to other team's disciplinary outcomes it didn't resolute the NCAA's problem of how the results appear to homer fans. Every case has a unique flavor and context to it.
If Gary really wanted to send his message he should have alleviated the restrictions on his own player with a set of goals like CK did w/Blount and Cliff Harris and then have him ready to play by the time this game happens. Otherwise stay in your yard and focus on what you can and should control...your team's gameplay and effort.

When I was a teen that was what everyone was doing...Plenty of seniors dating freshmen and what not.
Laws have become a little over the top these days.

Never said it wasn't , just remember that what you saw was a small window though. You saw NOTHING and heard NOTHING that happened before the punch. Nevertheless, his actions were wrong and he is being punished.

So there was something to justify coming up from behind someone and viciously striking them? That wasn't a "fight."

Nope, there is nothing to justify it, hence why I said he was in the wrong. I'm just saying that he didn't pick a "random" target and punched him for no reason. Apparently the guy had a quick altercation on the way out the bar with Hill, the guy called him an n*gger, Hill caught up to him and punched him. Does that “justify” it? Of course not, just like it didn’t justify it for Blount.
Nonetheless, his actions do not warrant kicking him off the team, this was the first issue he has had while attending LSU and by all accounts his actions are completely out of character for him. He has been a good student and has followed all of the University rules and walked a straight line in regards to his probation until that night. Which in my opinion, is all good cause not to end his career.

I have to agree. If he picked a random target for no reason I would be a little more upset about him not getting the boot, but in my opinion anyone willing to call another person a n-gger deserves to get sucker punched.
As far as his other charges go, I view it like this, The girl was only a year removed from middle school. The saying "if there's grass on the field, play ball" does not always apply in my head. As far as the ages between them go I get it, but the girl wasn't even old enough to have her learners permit while he was looking at which college to attend. It just has a certain "yuck" factor to me.
FWIW, Karlhungis is right. There is the possibility that he's just using it as an excuse. I've actually had someone come after me claiming that I called them a n*gger when I didn't. I'm willing to say that this isn't the case though, since there were probably witnesses that were asked about the situation that could've confirmed what was said.
Also, a lot of murderers tend to live relatively clean lifestyles. A lifestyle in which one would say "they were a good person, they just made a mistake." So how many bad choices does he get, or how bad do the choices have to be before he's not a good person? My point being, he better figure this s*** out soon, because many people view him as a child rapist that likes to sucker punch people. There are a lot of people out there that deserve to get sucker punched but don't because the people they piss off think before they act. And there are a lot of underage teenagers having sex, but that doesn't mean they should be. messing around with a 14 year old is taking a pretty big risk.
So either he's a good kid that isn't very bright, or he's not a good kid and gets away with a lot more than we know about.
