Don't forget Barner. It looks like they'll probly leave him at RB.lukeyrid13 wrote:As long as Grant stays commited then I'd say DT for sure if he decommits then I think RB. Our RB next year looks like this...
James
Alston............and thats it other then walk ons. Just get Lattimore and Uko and I'll be alright

^ Agreed that'd be nice. As for our RB situation, we really need to land ourselves a big, bruising RB.blackjack17 wrote:A highly touted safety to take over for Ward would be nice
I think Lamichael James will be a stud, but getting a Dontae Williams would add a lot of insurance IMO.

Re: Most important position for the Ducks to recruit this year
We've had a lot of top DT's commit to Oregon over the last two years, just none of them were academically eligible. Myles Wade, Thompson, etc... It's just a matter of time before we get one. This class looks like it's landing some really top tier speed, Duck football is headed towards a scary good place!

I'd say that's a given. I'd be surprised if CK doesn't bring in a JC back.duckgrad99 wrote:Since Blount is gone after this season, maybe recruiting a top JC running back should be a top priority. I also agree that a DT would be nice.

Oregon seems to be pretty good at plugging in RBs and making them work. Whitehead, JJ, etc were all not highly rated, but were highly successful at Oregon. The defense always seems to need a little more attention at Oregon. A big-time DT is way more critical IMO.

And think about how much easier that will be & how much better our RBs will be now that we're bringing in legit guys like LaJames, EGrant & now Dontae Williams.northbeachsf wrote:Oregon seems to be pretty good at plugging in RBs and making them work. I'd say Defensive coordinator
"Huard's gonna go back to throw the ball. Sets up, looks, throws towards the corner of the endzone. It is... INTERCEPTED! INTERCEPTED! THE DUCKS HAVE THE BALL! Down to the 35! The 40! KENNY WHEATON'S GONNA SCORE!!! KENNY WHEATON'S GONNA SCORE!!! 20! THE 10! TOUCHDOWN!!! KENNY WHEATON, AN INTERCEPTION!!! THE MOST IMPROBABLE FINISH TO A FOOTBALL GAME!!!"

With our linebacker depth, landing some big DTs would be a great addition to our defense. Our secondary could be dedicated to the pass with a dominant force similar Ngata upfront pushing rushers to covered gaps. Next would be a bruising RB. Thunder and lighting has been working for us for years. I would hate to see that go. Then S, CB, QB. Putting a supporting cast around those linebackers is important.

Well it sounds like we got a commit from our "thunder back", so that is good.midwestduck82 wrote:With our linebacker depth, landing some big DTs would be a great addition to our defense. Re: Most important position for the Ducks to recruit this year
We came a long ways by nabbing Dontae Williams and Ethan Grant. Is it possible that we can land ML? I doubt it, especially with the backfield already loaded next year with LMJ, KB, EG and now DW. Obviously, LMJ, KB, and EG are all change of pace backs or TZR's. DW would be our only real carry the load back besides Alston (backup role).
I think we have decent talent at WR, but need to grab a guy like Ted Meline, a guy with height and speed that reminds me of R.Moss, if his 40 time is accurate.
Finally, most important is the D-Tackle spot and Secondary. We've got guys coming in on the secondary, especially if Allen commits to us. Uko would solidify the class.

Going into the year, it was RB but with Williams and Grant committed, it's now DT.

Wait what? Why don't you think LMJ or Grant can't be feature backs like Jeramiah Johnson?NCDucks09 wrote:We came a long ways by nabbing Dontae Williams and Ethan Grant. Re: Most important position for the Ducks to recruit this year
Johnson was never a feature back really, he may have started his senior year, but he only got 11-15 touches a game and was relieved a lot by Blount and Masoli's running for all of 2008.Tray Dub wrote:Wait what? Do I think that LMJ could be a feature back? Yes (Ht: 5-9 Wt: 185 40: 4.4) If he puts on 20lbs. of muscle (200-205lbs.) and retains his speed/agility and top end. He would be a Pro back if he can do that. It takes a couple of years to put on this kind of weight, so it won't be until he's a JR. or SR. for these kinds of results.
E.Grant, feature back? No. (Ht: 5-9 Wt: 170 40: 4.35) He's too little, what is he like 170lbs? Even with 20lbs. of muscle, that's only 185-190lbs. A glorified change of pace receiving back really. Much like Percy Harvin.
D.Williams, prime time back! YES!!! (Ht: 5-11 Wt: 207 40: 4.49) This kid can put on 15-20lbs and be another J.Stew type bruiser...with speed. And, he's ready to carry the load as a Frosh.
Don't get me wrong, I like all of these backs, and I am especially intrigued by LMJ due to his top end speed and ability to cut like L.Tomlinson without losing quickness.
Allan Amundson had 4.3 40 time speed and was from Florida as well, but he was so small he could never really affect the game. Ofcourse, we ran the Pro-Style offense then too...
