I never really thought about it, but my Grandmother's entire family moved out here from a corner where Minnesota and Wisconsin meet, probably in the 1890's.
To the best of my knowledge, none of them ever went back for a visit. I wonder why?
Grandma was a first generation American from the border of Germany and Austria. She, as well as her brothers and sisters, learned German because their Grandma never learned english.

My Grandmother was German descent though born in there and immigrated to America at a young age at a similiar time. Her distant family which remained, was decimated by the the two wars, with the depression and a extreme frugal attitude with money she carried through her life, she probably considered a trip back unnecessary, perhaps painful under said circumstances.
