Florida State athletic director issued a statement that essentially says Norvell won't be fired yet, they'll do it after the season is over if the trend continues.

Wisconsin AD did similar, but surprisingly was more upbeat than I would have expected and talked largely about how the school needs to up its commitment to athletics monetarily. They may be weighing whether it's more worthwhile to put $25M into the team or $25M into making the coach go away, similar to Florida last year.

Some of these coaches limiting access to NFL scouts like Belicheck and Fickell are just wild to hear. Fickell apparently even denied he's been limiting access.

Arkansas - I wouldn't be surprised to see Dan Mullen hired here or at Auburn.

Auburn - Hugh Freeze is definitely on the hot seat. If he's fired, they could replace him with Mullen, Joe Brady, or maybe the guy at Vanderbilt?

Colorado - Does Deion stay at CU? He's having trouble getting over the hump and his continued health issues make me think he may step down.

Florida - I think Billy Napier could be fired at any moment. I'd LOVE to see them hire Jedd Fisch away from Washington.

LSU - I wouldn't be surprised to see Brian Kelly as a candidate for the Penn State job, or at Michigan.

Michigan - See above. Sherrone Moore is an average coach, at best. I could see them going after James Franklin or Brian Kelly, who had great success at Central Michigan.

North Carolina - I could see Belichek out at the end of the season. Candidates could be Franklin, the guy from Vanderbilt or Brian Brohm at Louisville.

Oklahoma - Brent Venables has had an awful time with injuries this year and last. I think he'll get another year, but if he were let go, I could see Josh Heupal at Tennessee as a possible replacement, as well as James Franklin.

USC - I think they'll lose at least 2, maybe 3 more games this year and the fans and alums are sick of him. The problem with Riley is he has a huge buyout, so this is a "wait and see" scenario. Also, who would they replace him with? The grass isn't always greener.

Virginia Tech - These guys seem set on bringing in Shane Beamer from South Carolina, but he may not want to have to try to live up to his Dad's legacy.

Wisconsin - Luke Fickel is in a pickle. He'll be gone after this year, but who do they replace him with? James Franklin's name will certainly come up again. It's hard to say.

Thoughts?
Sherrone Moore will get at least one more year. Everyone including boosters knew they were going to be s*** last year and still got a win over tOSU. This year is a young team with a True Freshman QB and knew there would be growing pains. If Mich is in contention for a playoff spot next year that will buy him at least another year. Also expect there NIL funds to substantially grow which will make them more competitive in the free agency market of CFB.

Look, at this point in time, it seems like he's doing a great job. But might I refer you to Mark Helfrich and a million other coaches as evidence that 1.5 seasons does not make a 10 year projection of success.
That is a lot of money for a coach who has yet to actually accomplish anything at Indiana.
He's still on the Market if a team wants to come after him, these numbers starting at 15M aren't going to make certain schools blush if a place like Florida wants him.

Word is that both Jimbo Fisher and Ed Orgeron are looking to get back in the game.

They've both won natty's, but both really stunk it up afterwards.

That said, Orgeron is a fantastic recruiter. Some team may offer him a staff position just for that reason.

He won’t be nearly as fantastic at recruiting in the NIL era. And then all you have a is great guy to drink beers with, who isn’t a very good coach

I saw Beaver fans turn their noses up at the suggestion of Ed O and I couldn't believe it. While you're right that NIL changes things, Ed O might also be a guy who Boosters enjoy because of that. Ed O plus Mike Cavanaugh feels like "at least its an ethos" approach for them to double down on tough OL play. I think the smaller D1 schools have to develop an identity and for the Beavs it would seem to be OL/Running Game and making sure its the 1 thing you are always good at.

I feel like they should hire the former Idaho and current NM HC. Unless Wisconsin hires him. He’s what they need, a good coach who can evaluate talent, and gets his teams up to play UO.

Of course beav fans are all delusional, and think they are bigger than they are, and won’t admit they are who everyone else knows they are. which is why WSU is giving Ole Miss a game, and the beavs are on the verge of not beating a D1 team all year.

Some rumors floating around today that Sarkisian may be looking at trying to make a move to the NFL. If that happens, would be interesting to see who Texas would target as a replacement.

I think we can add Brian Kelly at LSU to the list now. The natives are getting restless. Joe Brady is a name that's been mentioned for other openings. Would he return to college for an HC job?

The question is, with so many potential openings, where will all the new coaches come from? There could be 10-15 openings. Some current head coaches would likely just jump to another school, but there's only so many to go around.

How long does it take for coach Subprime at Colorado to be on the hot seat? I've gotta think his agent is already desperately trying to get him the FSU job if they fire Norvell.

In terms of candidates for jobs, here is my fun wild guesses right now for the big openings after the season:
Penn State: Matt Rhule
Nebraska (if Rhule leaves): Chris Klieman
Kansas State (if Klieman leaves): Collin Klein
Wisconsin: Lance Leipold
Kansas (if Leipold leaves): Matt Wells
Florida: Jedd Fisch
Washington (if Fisch leaves): Jonathan Smith
Michigan State (if Smith leaves): Jason Candle
Arkansas: Gus Malzahn
Virginia Tech: Bob Chesney
UCLA: Tony White
Oklahoma State: GJ Kinne
Oregon State: Bryan Harsin
Stanford: Pep Hamilton
Florida State: Deion Sanders
Colorado (if Sanders leaves): Spencer Danielson

Kelly out with 9 wins or more in his first three years is wild.

Don’t forget they were 6-7 and 5-5 in the previous two seasons before he took over.

SEC is cut throat.

Only LSU coach in the last four to not win a national championship in his first four seasons (Ed O, Les Miles, and Saban were all winners within that period).

As a Ducks fan, I don't hate seeing all these programs that get substantially more TV money than we do have to pay these incredible buyouts. If it's going to past coaches, it's not going to NIL.

Yeah and I don’t care for Kelly, he’s a bum.

But with how much money is being pumped around in the college football world, it does seem like the amount of grace for coaches is getting shorter and shorter.

By this standard, If Lanning doesn’t win a playoff game in the next few seasons, is he out?
