Cal has fired Justin Wilcox. Nick Rolovich is taking over as interim HC.

It makes sense from the fact that there's some familiarity between the two, but I don't see it happening.

I was wondering how long Cal was going to put up with mediocrity. But its hard to know how Cal would define "success." Minimum 8-9 wins a year?

Is Jonathan Smith next, or will MSU decide to give him one more year?

I wonder if he bolts for the UCLA job. Seems like either Smith or FSU DC Tony White would be their big targets?

Who does everyone think would be Cal's targets?

Cal should stick with Rolovich. The guy was impressive at WSU. Glad to see him back in the mix.

And surely no one will suggest that, if Lupoi were to depart (which I definitely do not expect), that we should consider Wilcox for DC.

I know it’s not college but Chip was fired, don’t think he’s to blame, he’s more of a scapegoat for Pete Carroll, but never felt like that was a good move on Chip’s part to leave Ohio State for the Raiders.

You really underestimate those on social media, especially Twitter.

You are no doubt correct on that!

What? The guy was 5-6 at WSU with wins over OSU (x2), Portland State and some mediocre Cal and Stanford teams. Lost at home to Utah State in year 2.

Cal can do better if they actually want to put effort in. They are a great school in a football hotbed state, if they want try in football for the first time in a decade they could easily succeed in a weak ACC.

He did good things at Hawaii, and was 4-3 at Wazzu in his first real season. He has potential for sure.

If he is their coach next September it will be his first time coaching in almost 5 years (minus this one-off interim spot against SMU this weekend). If Cal wants to run that they can cross their fingers and hope he still has it, I dont think that makes any sense for a P4 team.

We'll see. Wilcox had 2 winning seasons at Cal in his 9 years coaching there. I imagine Rolovich could do better than that.

What makes you imagine that? Like what's the thought process?
