It makes sense from the fact that there's some familiarity between the two, but I don't see it happening.

I was wondering how long Cal was going to put up with mediocrity. But its hard to know how Cal would define "success." Minimum 8-9 wins a year?

I wonder if he bolts for the UCLA job. Seems like either Smith or FSU DC Tony White would be their big targets?

And surely no one will suggest that, if Lupoi were to depart (which I definitely do not expect), that we should consider Wilcox for DC.

I know it’s not college but Chip was fired, don’t think he’s to blame, he’s more of a scapegoat for Pete Carroll, but never felt like that was a good move on Chip’s part to leave Ohio State for the Raiders.

What? The guy was 5-6 at WSU with wins over OSU (x2), Portland State and some mediocre Cal and Stanford teams. Lost at home to Utah State in year 2.

Cal can do better if they actually want to put effort in. They are a great school in a football hotbed state, if they want try in football for the first time in a decade they could easily succeed in a weak ACC.

If he is their coach next September it will be his first time coaching in almost 5 years (minus this one-off interim spot against SMU this weekend). If Cal wants to run that they can cross their fingers and hope he still has it, I dont think that makes any sense for a P4 team.

We'll see. Wilcox had 2 winning seasons at Cal in his 9 years coaching there. I imagine Rolovich could do better than that.
