Because he missed not only a ton of kicks, but crucial kicks that could’ve resulted in Oregon winning a national championship. At a certain point it was on Chip for trusting him. But he choked every single game.

Plus recently it’s come to light that he was a bad teammate. Barner was talking about the 2011 USC loss when Maldonado missed a pretty easy kick to send the game into OT. He said players were heartbroken and crying in the laughing room and he looked over and Maldonado was flirting and laughing with his girlfriend like it didn’t matter. And I do remember his postgame interviews where he kept saying it wasn’t on him, it was a team loss, didn’t own up to his miss or take any blame at all.

Another infamous moment was his kick against Stanford in 2012 when he had a chip shot, almost like a PAT, and he missed. That would’ve put Oregon up 17-7 and probably would’ve won Oregon the game.

Not sure I'd call missed kicks, or botched plays "infamous". Now if it were to come to light that they were intentionally missed or botched, that's infamous.

I dunno, 'infamous' has a negative connotation. Ho Ching is more of a phantom legend. Like Diante Jackson and Tyrece Gaines. Saviors of Oregon football that never were. Also, obviously, the sad end of Ho Ching makes his story not infamous.

How are we forgetting Onterrio Smith and the Whizzinator?

Seems like that should be a slam dunk.
