Re: Mark Few to be Offered
I don't get it. Some of you people are making it sound as if Mark Few would be a second class pick to any of the other guys mentioned. I like the Few pick, I think this community would respond to that choice. I know that the object to any pick is to put more butts in the seats, to make up for the teams lack of wins, but I like the choice. Oh and let's not forget PK was sending money to Gonzaga to help off-set his salary. My next choice would be Turgeon he has shown the ability to turn around TWO programs that had been in dire straits when he arrived. I don't know if we need a BIG SPLASH if it doesn't compute to victories. I rather see a smaller splash with a coach that has proven to be a winner regardless of salary, or school. GO DUCKS!!!

I really hope they don't hire Few unless it's as a last resort. We need a proven winner from a major conference. I really don't believe that Few would be much, if any, of an upgrade over Kent.

While I would never put myself up as any kind of expert on these matters, I just don't, with all due respect, think that the pro-Few arguments have been answered sufficiently by the anti-Few folks. What Few has done with limited resources over there compared to what he'll have in Eugene to me is the biggest overall point in his favor. Success is the point; his teams must be playing good enough defense to finish the vast majority of their games with more points than their opponent has. Last I checked, that's what matters. Then throw in his southern Willamette Valley roots, and that's a pretty good combo. I do not want a parade of "high profile" coaches just stopping in for a few years before they go somewhere else.

Well to me, I would rather have a coach like Jamie Dixon whose worse season as a head coach was a 20-9 record with a first round lost in the NCAA. And who has made it out of the first round EVERY single season so far except when his team went 20-9 in 2004. Might I mention, he did all of this in the hardest conference in America? Or do you want a coach who can win in a small conference, but as show limited success in the NCAA tournament despite having high ranked teams? Few can't get past the sweet 16 despite coaching for more than 11 years. Sure his team has been pretty dominant in the WCC, but come on, Portland is the 3rd toughest team in the conference, and they lost to my freaking Portland State Vikings...TROD wrote:I don't get it. I'd much rather have a coach who has shown he can win against the best in America, rather than a coach who has shown he can beat Loyola Marymount and San Fransisco on a consistent basis.
And I MUCH rather prefer Dixon's coaching style compared to Few's.

Ditto that. I think people are forgetting that Few walked into a pretty good situation. That program was built up by Monson. I still think we end up going with a guy (Butler/Dayton) moving up from a mid-major that we can pay $1-1.5 million.UOducksTK1 wrote:Well to me, I would rather have a coach like Jamie Dixon whose worse season as a head coach was a 20-9 record with a first round lost in the NCAA. From Mops:
kezi first broke the news that reports from Spokane, WA media reporting Mark Few may take job at Oregon. Good or bad move for UO?

KEZI also adds, "Seattle Times Columnist Bud Withers quotes another source, stating Few's level of interest is not nearly that high."
Ahhh . . . the refreshing breeze of rampant speculation. What message boards are all about.

Re: Mark Few to be Offered
At least we have another thing to look forward to this spring. We have spring football, baseball, AD search, BB HC search, and T&F. Also, men's golf and the softball teams are looking good, too. Things aren't all gloom and doom for the UO.
